Nitrates

Hello,
I am thinking about placing an order with you guys for about 700 dollars worth of corals and inverts. Was wondering why your guaratee says that the water parameter for nitrate says under 10 ppm? My tank has been at 20 ppm forever. Was told that the level of 20 ppm was ok for reef and inverts. Is that too much?

Hi
Most people feel your nitrates should be much less then 10ppm. A lot depends on what type of corals you are keeping. SPS are much more sensitive to nitrate then other corals. Some Anemones and mushrooms can use nitrates as a food source. Is 20ppm to much? Most experts would say so, but it just depends on what you are keeping. Personally I try to keep mine below that level and my corals are happier.
