nls pellets unappetizing

There is no substitute for a quality frozen food. Larry's food, Brent's food, pe mysis, and spir brine (or any homemade blend) must be strongly considered. I haven't used dry food in 15 years. If a fish is eating 2 times a day, feed it 4 or 5 smaller meals a day.

Good luck

What is in your home made mix?

Not who you originally asked, but I feed a mix of Clam, shrimp and scallops. I mix that with Hikari mysis, brine with spirulina, and Mega Marine. Never have issues with fish not eating it and they are all plump.

It comes as a chunk frozen.
So I have to defrost and chop up 100+ mysis every day?
What a PITA.

PE mysis? If so, it should be rinsed thoroughly and can then be minced. Frozen food should be thawed first.
If not pe, just shave it down.
Pita? You are helping your fish survive and thrive.
Feeding fish can be quite time consuming, esp if making your own. Shaving or mincing their food is easy.

I wouldn't rinse and don't. I feed meaty food several times a day along with the pellets and several sheets of nori.

pe mysis must be rinsed, thoroughly, even then the oils will wreck havoc with skimmers..
The oils are good and many other things being rinsed away. My current skimmer has 0 issues with it. My previous skimmers would shutdown for a short while.

that include the sticks and other junk that is sometimes included?
pe recommends rinsing but whatever works, works...

Well, I've never seen sticks before. PE Mysis isn't a staple of what I feed but have used it. If their packaging is starting to include sticks it won't be apart of what I feed. There's much better quality and diversity that can be made or is already packaged out there then.

pe mysis is one of the healthiest foods we can give our fish...
I use the 40oz flat packs and they are packaged a bit differently than the cubes, def easier to get unwanted material in larger size packs.

Yes, I'm fully aware of what PE Mysis is and have always used the flat packs before they ever came out with cubes.

I do agree they are a healthy food but not complete.

I agree I feed PE mysis every day. It will knock down the foam for a little but it will come back soon. I don't rinse because there are thousands if not millions of little creatures that need to feed in my system everyday also.

I feed a combination of Hakari pellets, PE mysis, Nori, fresh vegetation, live black worms when I have them.
