NM Game and Fish Stop Sale

petco made a decision not to sell inverts and lr(im sure a corporate decision) ..Im sure they are not really coming out ahead..so instead of saying that petco decided not to sell these items they are stating no one can sell these items..I work with local animal (albq.) welfare and have not heard anything..also I haven't heard anything down the pipe from game and fish..

sounds like BS to me. SWRC sells inverts every day.

I think the invasive species laws ONLY pertain to species that could actually invade New Mexico waterways, which would exclude marine / saltwater species from any consideration.

There is no way a yellow tang could survive in the Rio Grande.

As for chinchillas I have a mated pair in 58g mixed reef tank...They sometimes fight with the clownfish, but are doing ok otherwise. A little soggy, and the fur clogs up my skimmer about once a week, but they're just amazing critters....

whatever.

PetCo in Albuquerque stopped selling marine animals period a while back, I think they're probably trying to phase them out of most stores. Lame that they would use the local government as a scapegoat.

Why does no one seem to have any information about this ban. I live in Santa Fe and Petco has a sign up that says no live rock sales. I went to Jurasiac Pets and he said he was trying to figure out what to do. I was basically going to be on the honor system. SWR in ABQ said they hav'nt recieved any info about it. I just ordered some coral on ebay and am in the process of setting up a larger tank. I guess I'll just have to wait for a game warden to come to my home and bust me.

SO I spoke to our (city) ordinance officer..she stated that yes petco wasnt selling inverts,(no information/may be us moratorium or corporate decision) and another local pet store had an order confiscated (non marine ).. I was told that Game and Fish was cracking down on the pet industry..They told me that they don't really know what they are looking for though..So far that is all I know now if I hear anything else Ill post..

im not sure if they know what is going on. i think someone stayed up late and read the rules and decided to enforce an old law.

I asked one of the employees at petco why they couldnt sell anemones and he told me that too many of them were thriving in the rio grande lol i just laughed and walked away.
