No coral growth

Have you tried using algae scrubbers? I have read many good stories about them. Doesnt hurt to try if you have nothing to lose.

Half of my 100g sump is Caulerpa Racemosa and it can have the rest if needed.
I have looked at scrubbers, but I think my efforts on export are efficient already.

Got a new problem now.
Magnesium depletion with levels lower than 800.
All these water changes and this is what I get.

I've been using RO/DI since May with five 33% water changes since then.
30 TDS in, 0 out.

Hmm.. Strange that your Mg got so low. Have you tested for Ca an alk? I they are still high your Mg kit might be off.

did you check and adjust the levels in your water change water before changing?

mag needs to be 1200-1300 before your alk and ca can be maintained in saturation.

or maybe your test kit is bunk...

It was a test kit giving very low readings 3 times in a row.
If in doubt with your odd readings, go get another test kit before you mess with your tank.
I added a lot of magnesium, just to figure out later I was misled by the test kit.

By the way, the annoying main tank algae is turning gray in some pathces either from the Magnesium overdosing or my huge ball of Caulerpa in the sump.
I just hope it dies off slowly.

I had a po4 problem ran a tank for 4 years with no po4 media, my rocks were bound. I made fresh sw in a container and added some rocksfrom the display with good water flow, po4 was over five thats what the test kit maxed out at. I started gfo in a reactor and now i am around .00-.07 phosphate stops sps growth and mag. will make your calcium and alk useable. change gfo regularly and it will in turn cure your rock with good water flow. What salt are you using and what test kits. I also had byropsis that algae sux, I used tech m and what a job it did. I hope all works out. just keep testing and if you think the test is inaccurate get a different brand I have two brands of each test and some i have three.

Another month has passed without any significant changes.
I've never had so much algae growing in my system before, but in theory that should make the wait a little shorter. It's amazing how much algae the phosphate leach can keep up.

Replacing or removing the sand may dump some of the phosphates in one go and is quite cheap so I'll do that soon.

I'm going back to square one after exactly 10 years in the hobby.

Fortunately a fellow reefer is going to supply me with frags, both from my own from the past and then some.

Now I need a few hundred pounds of dry rock.
Found Marcorocks.com so far. Do you know of anyone else that exports?
