a little bit of a back story. about 2 years ago my LFS had a pair on maroon clowns. One was about 3.5 inches and the other was about 2 inches. The LFS owner told me that they were for sure a matted pair but had not yet laid eggs. Fat forward about a year and a half latter. About 5 months ago i was at the shop and he still had the pair of maroons. I asked if they had laid eggs yet and he informed me that they had not and he wasn't sure after all if they were a matted pair. So he said if i wanted them, i could have them for 65.00. I said bag them up. well a few miuntes ago (about 5 months after i got them), i was watching the female swimming upside down against a rock. I got closer to the tank. There they were....eggs. boy am i excited. I know i have a lot to learn and i know i will lose a few clutches. but i am going to give this a try. I can't find my Clownfish book by Wilkerson. Can somebody point me to a thread on RC that would help me. I need to know everything. I will keep this thread going. Any bidy want to be my mentor. Here is some pics. How often do they have eggs (12-14 days?). Also how long does it take for her to lay eggs. its been over an hour and she is still making passes on the rock. Thanks

well thanks for the comments. it is now the 2nd day, and the eggs are all there with mom and dad being great parents. even though I know that I am going to lose these eggs along with the next few setsm I am still excited. I was just about to give up on this pair.

I am going to the LFS today to get a few things for my larvae tank. here is a list of things i will be getting.

10 gallon tank
air pump
2 air stones
small heater
construction paper for the outside

did I miss anything?

I can't find my Clownfish by wilkerson book. so I am trying to do alot of this off of the top of my head. I will accept any help. thanks guys and gals. K/

Spawn #2 happened at 12:45 PM on Thursday 8/2/07.

Well my lady had eggs again today. Exactly 10 days from the first spawn. There looks to be tons more eggs this time. I am still not realy ready for this set either, but i should be by the third set. this will be my journal. So keep an eye on it and any help along the way would be great. These pics were taken during the spawn. thats why it doesn't seem that big of a clutch. i will take more pics later. I even tried the lower part of a pot. for the last 5 days (since I put the pot bottom in the tank), my male clown has been cleaning the thing crazy. So i thought I was in luck. but i guess mommy didn't want her eggs there. Hopefully it won't be that hard to collect the eggs in the main tank when the hatch.

ok so its been about 5 days since the 2nd spawn which happened last thursday. there is only maybe 20 eggs left with little eyes starting to develope. my question is why is the clutch thining out everyday. there was probably 400-500 eggs when she spawned on thursday. now i know some eggs will be lost, but i am losing probably 75 eggs a day or so. this is only there 2 set of eggs. i have read that it takes a few times before they become good parents. i don't see any tank mates getting to the eggs. anytime anything comes by the clutch, momma takes care of the problem and sends the intruder on his way. i am just bumbed because i just spent 140.00 dollars to have some live rotifers and equipment sent next day air so i could have it by today. oh well. any thoughts what the problem could be. thanks
