No foam in protein skimmer?

This is the first time I used a protein skimmer and it's a Typhoon hang-on back unit as shown below.

Please excuse my ignorance but i've had this unit running for about 3 weeks (was noisy...quited down...now is extremely loud and have a replacement unit coming). Is the lack of foam normal? I really see nothing but water in the skimmer's tube.

I don't know anything about that skimmer, but three weeks doesn't make sense. Do you have the water level set right? Can you increase the air with this skimmer?

I am not saying your skimmer is good or bad since I don't know, but if it was me, I would make a post on RC and state what you budget is and then ask what is the best that is out there at the price you are looking to spend. Since they are going to replace the skimmer anyway, you could as for your money back IF you decide to change skimmers.

Thanks for the info Ken. The water level is set where the instructions said. i'll check to see if I can increase the air this evening.
