No, I can't ID it.

no one forces you to click on threads about ID'ing a coral...

if you dont want to see it, dont click.

some of us like to know exactly what is in our tank, and can't pinpoint exactly what species of polyp we have (like, we know its a palythoa sp. but not what type). This site is great for that, because of the wealth of collective information we have here.

bottom line: dont read the thread if it annoys you so much

just my $.02

it's not the species id's he's complaining about, its the what is this zoanthid's name questions, "i can't find it on zoaid, how much is this worth?"

Well, you had a legit ID thread a while ago, which was interesting.

Sometimes there are people that have been told "no, you have xyz, not abc". And they keep asking and asking just so they can get someone to say, "abc". Then the next thing you know, they are on Ebay saying, "Zoa collectors ID this as ABC!!! It's super rare and you have to have it!!!"

That's the uncool part.

Y'know? :)

lol interesting indeed....the newest species of palythoa is:

palythoa aiptasius....i hear theres also a mutant of this type called palythoa heliofungius :eek2:

i can see how that side of it is annoying, but like i said before, you dont HAVE to click that link and reply to that thread.

"ID please (So I can use the name on EBAY and stuff to jack up prices on my chop-shop special)"

That's what some people are getting tired of seeing.

yeah, that one's my favorite one, seems like every other "id my zoos" thread translates as "what's it worth"

people, you just bought them, who cares what they are or what they're worth, just try and enjoy them instead of chopping them into tiny tiny pieces

also, and everyone seems to forget, just because zoos have a name doesn't make them any more than they already are, nice zoos are nice zoos, and awful zoos will continue to look crappy (to me at least) with a name, there's lots of zoos on zoaid.com that I'd sooner kalk than see anywhere near my tank... ;)

No, but I lived across the street from it for a few years. It's now called NGA, a much easier acronym.

The annoying thing is that all those silly ID threads knock interesting threads onto the next page. I fully support an ID forum. Not just for zoanthids, as there's lots of things people would like ID'd.

i have gone to zoaid.com a couple of times and i still can't identify half of my zoas. there are a lot of morphs and different lighting make it difficult to id. i understand about useing the id to sell, that is wrong, but some of us actually want to know what it is and also how much it could be worth, to see if we got a good deal or not.

Seriously, before zoanthids began getting names, it was easy to know whether something was worth a lot of money or not.
All you had to do is look at it. Then gauge how much you were willing to pay for it. If you're unsure, post a thread, link a picture and ask if it's a good deal.

The only reason someone really needs to get value on a coral is if they're selling it. And there have been a lot of downright shady dealings with some of these people.

If you want to ID a coral and it's not on zoaid, e-mail them. They will be more then happy to help you figure out what kind of color, texture or whatever it is you're looking to figure out. Even though I hear they eat their young at zoaid, they're all relatively good natured people. Except me, I am evil.;)

like Reef Junkie said, you dont need to know if it is worth anything.. you already bought it, so it is worth whatever you paid. Unless your gonna try to sell it, you dont need to know its worth more/less. You obviously like it enough to pay $x.xx so enjoy what you have-- good deal or not..

LOL, Rev...

In think it will be good for a lot of people to have a Zoa id thread. Just look how well the Fairy wrasse thread is doing. That way the rest of the forum wont get bogged down with nuisance id questions.
