No more 380 but replaced it with a new 190

The Truth
Here we go again. :D I sold my 380 due to the high electric bills and a baby girl that will be here next week. The 380 was 76"Lx48"Dx25"T and the new 190 is 76"Lx24"Dx25"T. It went right into the same hole in the wall but I just trimmed off the stand as you can see in the picture. The tank has been up and running for about 2 months now and everyhting is taking off.

Here's a list of my fish:

5.5" Achillies Tang
5-6" Naso
3" Mystery Wrasse
2 True Percs
Mandarin
Spotted Cardinal
3" Regal Angel

Thanks, as for the Naso and Mystery they are my seconds. First Naso wouldn't eat and the first Mystery jumped. So The second set are both eating and I put eggcrate on the top of the tank. The only fish I'm having problems with now is my Regal. The darn thing won't eat anything. I'm still going to try live brine.

I sold my 380 due to the high electric bills .........

excuse me for asking, but what would be the difference in electric bill from a 300gal to a 180gal?
did you replace all lights and pumps?
couldn't you have just replaced lights and pumps for your 300gal?

Here'a the list of equipment for each.

new 190

3x250 MH w/electronics ballasts
Dart pump for return
2x250 heaters
4-way
Needle wheel Skimmer w/sedra 9000
Calcium reactor w/mag 3
Kalk reator w/mag 3

old 380

4x400 MH w/magnetic ballasts
Barracuda return pump
2x Dart pumps for closed loop
Iwaki 100 on a Beckett injector skimmer
3/4 HP chiller w/mag 24
4-way
Calcium reactor w/mag 3
Kalk reator w/mag 3

So far my PG&E bill went from $1086 for one month to $375 per month.

I had to sell the tank to pay my PG&E bill.

so your saying that it was $700 more to run the 380 than it is to run a $190, I havent done the math but that doesnt sound right

Well I think the chiller was pulling to hard because it was in my garage which that's when it was 112 degrees out and the garage was 120 inside. So the chiller couldn't cool itself off and was blowing a 20 amp break.

I used the $2000 I got for the 380 to pay some of my back PG&E off. I'm still paying them payments. I'll be getting a bill for the past month an it will be a full month with the new tank on it so I'll get a real amount for the monthly bill. I'm guessing it will be around $375. Another reason my bill was so high is that PG&E raised there higher tier rates by 65% here.

Thats crazy. Our rates here in CT went up by 20% earlier this year, and are slated for an additional increase this month I believe. Nothing like out in CA though. Good idea to downsize rather than get out all together!

That chiller must have really been killing you. Of course you did cut your lighting and pumps down by a half or more, but I bet it was the chiller that was really killing you. They really arent designed to operate in ambient temps of higher than 95. They become less and less efficient as the ambient goes up and run for longer and longer....

Wow. Another awesome in-wall tank. Nice size too. We are going to have to sit my wife down for an intervention...she needs to understand how important it is to have a larger tank!

how many kilowatts are you using daily? my last bill said since my new tank went up, we went from using ~30 kilowatts a day to ~40 kilowatts a day! that tank caused a 25% increase in my overall electrical bill
