OceanPure Pro
Salinity: 1.025
Mg: 1450
Ca: 390
Alk: 7.7
Ph: 8.1

I highlighted the problem areas. TMPro had on my last batch

Salinity 1.025
Mg: 1250
Ca: 395
Alk: 10.5
Ph: 8.3

doesnt seem that bad to me

is that the ocean pure pro??

last time i checked mine the Ca was around 440 and the alk was around 9dkh at 1.025

however i didnt check the mg level....

I mixed a fresh batch tonight of the Pro version in my 55g bin.

Salinity: 1.025
CA: 435
ALK: 9dKH
PH: 8.3 (pH Probe)

I did not check MG, but my last batch tested around 1300

Are you using the Pro or the regular version?

do you not like it bc it has high mag?
isn't that good? bc you're likely to have low mag in your tank and when you do a 10-20% water change it'll up your mag a little.
alk and ph are cheaper to raise than mag.

maybe i'm missing something....can you explain why you dont like it please.

thanks.

It is OP Pro that I mixed up. And that alk number is correct. I retested 3 times. The alk is really low, and the Ca isn't all that great, and the ph is borderline ok.

Shane,
I'm going to make a trip to Marine Depot pretty soon (gotsta pickup my BBQ that I loaned for RAP) if you need me to pickup a few buckets of TM Pro for you. In fact I'm going to buy a few more buckets for myself too.
Just let me know

FYI: that was Kent that I had mixed up the other day and gave you (not the infamous bad batch). They have faily low readings too though

I mix Ocean Pure with Instance Ocean (50/50) and that seems to balance things out nicely.

Those measurements were from the last time I mixed TMPro. I store all that stuff in my Aquanotes :bum:

As far as picking me up some buckets of TMPro... I think I am just going to buy them from Hugo and support the lfs. He will price match MD for dry goods, and is close to my house.

TMPro needs Mg... but I am happier to dose a little Mg as opposed to bringing up the Ca/Alk/Ph on the OPPro.

Wow Nice! I wish the batch I bought mixed up that way.

the oceanpure pro mg seems a 'little' high' but seems somewhat okay if your tank is a little depleted...

ideal reef parameters

other than that...the levels look pretty ideal for a zeo tank! :D:D:D:D:D
As far as ideal... for my tank ideal is in my mind.

Salinity: 1.025
Ph: 8.3 <--- hard to maintain with Ca Reactor
Alk: 8.5-10
Ca: 410-450
Mg: 1350

I was just shocked, because between last week and this week my Alk went from 8.2 to 7.4. I was planning on doing a big water change (say 25-35%) to help bring things in line... my normal 10% weeklys are 3 weeks overdue (too many projects), but when I checked my mixed up batch... TADOW! Low alk there too. So I just buffered the tank up to 7.7 and buffered my water batch with some kalk slurry. Hopefully the mixed water will be in the 8.5-10 range when I get home so I can do that planned water change.

I also turned up the Ca reactor effluent rate a little bit. Obviously it was not keeping up with all the growth I have had lately.

Just curious as to what test kit your running?

For the people that posted that have Ocean Pure Pro, I have gotten the same results for Alk and Ca.

If you don't want your salt, ill take it off your hands :)

How long do you let the salt mix before you test it?

Salt mixed for 48 hours before testing. Salifert Test kits used. Refractometer used to measure salinity.

The first two bags mixed up fine. It was the 3rd bag that was off. I really don't want to have to measure every time I mix up a bag.

Is this your first batch? If so it looks like your testing every bag anyways. =)

I have had 3 different batches and they all have come out similar #'s oh 9dKH and 420 - 440 Ca... I dont understand why this is happening.

I am getting 7.5 - 7.7 Alk on OceanPure Pro also (measured with a Salifert test kit).
Does your salt have little brown specs in it? I noticed that there are a bunch of brown specks in my OceanPure Pro salt. It almost looks like rusted metal chips. They seem to dissolve in the water.

Thanks,
Sam

Interesting, whats your salinity in your mixed water?

Are you guys doing High resolution mode?

FYI, my TM Pro reads:
Sal = 1.0255
pH = 8.2
Ca = 420
Mg = 1420

I added some baking soda so the Alk won't be straight out of the mix only.

I think I am just going to use TM, and knowingly dose Mg whenever I do. I think that is probably the safest bet. After talking with a couple of TotM owners who recommended I just use the TM instead of TMPro.

Yes I am doing high resolution, and I retested about 4 times, because I couldn't believe it. I even busted out my SeaChem ghetto kit that I first got when I started saltwater.
