No... really, my clam ate my clown!

So I went down to the family room after putting away the dinner dishes and there sticking out of one of my 4" croceas, right up to his pec fins is one of my o. clowns.

Apparently he was picking at something on the mantle and got caught. His wiggling must have caused the clam to clamp down. When he stopped wigling the crabs & fish picking at him must have kept the clam closed tight. They are now in a cup seperated from the tank... and 20 minutes later and the clam's still got him.

I don't have the digital camera home or I'd take pics cause you probably don't belive my but, it's sad but true :(

I have a tomato clown that likes to lounge in the opening of a big Derasa clam, luckily the clam doen't seem to mind but I could see how it could easily happen. Good luck getting them apart.

it's natures 'Survival of the Fittest', your clown was a Nemo, a slow swimmer with gimpy fins :) the clam was only doing it's job ;)

but i do wish you the best with the situation, most of the time when something gets 'ate' by my clams they gladly spit it half way across the tank with a quick sneeze soon afterwords. maybe you should have just left the clam alone.

It may be necessary for you to GENTLY pull the clam open without harming/hurting it to get the clown out if it's not already dead. Both will probably die if you don't.

Well it took about an hour and a half in the isolation container to get the clam calmed down enough that he would release the fish.

I just can't imagine what was so tempting to the clown to get him that far into the clam. The pinch point was right on the gills. Poor little guy suffocated.

Once the crabs and fire shrimp got wind of the situation they just poked at the clam enough to keep him closed up.

The clown has found that all drains do lead to the ocean and the clam... he seems fine.

What a crazy hobby!
