How often do you do a water change and what amount? Are you still feeding heavily?

Some reefer do not run a skimmer but they do water changes every week. They also do not have a heavy stock tank of fishes either.

Octo extreme 200 or 250

Yes, a tank can last for a long time without a skimmer, especially with water changes, however you've just got to keep that water change schedule consistent otherwise you'll get nutrient buildups again. Most of the really dedicated reefers do consistent water changes AND skim heavily. I was fortunate that my skimmer was oversized enough for my tank that I was okay rarely doing water changes, and mostly just skimming. Water changes and heavy skimming is strongly recommended.

Well i just been doing 15 gal a week. i had an ick problem and most of my fish past way :( . iam feeding kinda heavy just to keep the last fish in my tank and it seems to be doing great . but i need a skimmer and that octo sounds good . where did you guys see it for 289?

Also, if chuck (coralfragger101) still has that Deltec skimmer for a great price, I'd definitely consider checking that out. That was a sweet skimmer.

I myself am in the market for an Octo extreme 200. I have a total system volume of about 160g.
From everyones feedback on here and anywhere else really, those skimmers are the best bang for your buck.

My tank just went thru a ick problem. Lost 5 fish but the others survive. Lost my Bellus Angel which hurt my pocket seeing that one go. Water changes makes such a big difference to the fish and coral. Keep doing what you are doing. Skimmer will be a great add on.

I am looking at the vertex in180 for my tank I know some people that have the in80 and they run great

the oct0 200 is perfect for a 125g.... if you want smaller you can go with the 160 but the price differance isnt that much (go with the 200!)
