No3 and No3po4x question.

MANTAL

New member
I use nopox for 3 weeks , 9ml per day for a 70g spsreef.
My no3 are still 25ppm salifert test and po4 : 0 ( maybe ).
My new reef runs for 8 months and i had a 30g before.
kh : 9,3 Ca : 430 Mg : 1290 temp : 24,5C 1.025
Salt : red sea

1) Should i use reef energy A-B too ?

Fishes : 1 blue tang, 2 ocellaris , 1 filefish and 1 diodon holocanthus
Unfortunately, i feed the puffer frzen shrimp every day.

2) Is diodon responsible for the no3 ?

My sps have very good color and they are growing up.

Thank you

I'd probably back off on the feeding. The feeding level is too high for the tank to export all the fixed nitrogen in the food, most likely. Any artificial bio-filtration, like a wet-dry or a bio-wheel, could be an issue, too.

I am planning to dispose diodon in the next period so maybe my no3 will fall down again as before.

Any suggestion of adding amino ( reef energy ) while me no3 are 25 ?

Thanks

I would continue dosing NO3-PO4-X as directed until you reach your target level of NO3 and PO4. During this time, I would withhold the addition of the aminos.

Once you reach your NO3 and PO4 targets, continue your maintenance dose of NO3-PO4-X as recommended. Only then would I begin the addition of aminos ... SLOWLY. Keep testing your nutrient levels as you begin with amino additions.

For right now, more harm could come from adding addition nutrients (aminos) than from withholding them.

Sorry, I meant that I'd back off on all the nutrients going into the tank, food and amino acids, anything with fixed nitrogen in it. I should have been more clear.

Finally, i gave my diodon to a friend with a larger aquarium.
So i stopped feeding frozen shrimp.
The last 3 days my no3, are falling down , today no3: 5-10 from 25-50 before 15 days.
Discussing with friends, they told me that no3 will drop down very soon with nopox but not po4, they will be late.
Can i use rowaphos together with nopox.
The problem is ,
1) i still have green algae to the rear glass and
2) in two of my sps, there is green-brown algae at the bottom

Thanks

The NOPOX actually doesn't really reduce PO4 what happens is it provides a carbon source for bacteria in return eats up NO3 and causes the skimmer to skim more by skimming more it also removes more PO4. Can I ask why do you want to reduce PO4 if it is already zero? Do you have a lot of algae and its consuming the PO4? Vinegar dosing is a lot cheaper and works just as good. Don't dose Energy A&B unless you have a ULNS which you don't with NO3 Ammino's will raise NO3 eventually.

I am measuring po4 as 0, but is it 0 ?
Why i have algae in the glass ?
Vinegar is more simply but nopox is more integrated.

IO is Instant Ocean, the maker of other products, but not No3po4x, which is Red Sea. Sigh! :) Oh, well! You can mix the No3po4x with PhosBan.

The phosphate level might still be well above natural reef levels, even if a hobbyist kit measures zero. Our kits aren't all that precise.
