Noise from Reefpack 200

Hi,

I recently bought a Reefpack 200 but have found the unit to be very noisey from the very start. I've messed about with things quite a bit now and have ended up just running the Nano Cleaner alone, with the skimmer being taken off the magnetic holder altogether and disconnected while I await the delivery of another holder so I can mount it further away from the cleaner.

I've found that Nano Cleaner in particular vibrates an awful lot and this makes the skimmer and it's cup vibrate and rattle, generating noise from it even when it's turned off. The resonating humming noise it can create at times drives me around the bend. :(

I've taken the pump out and it appears to run ok etc. I found running at 100% generated the least noise/hum. I've also tried cramming floss around the pump inside the cleaner to try and reduce the unit's vibration but that didn't make much difference either. The unit also rattles for long periods from time to time also which i'm guessing is coming from the cap end at the bottom of the unit.

Any simple and handy tips that'll help reduce the noise/hum? The tank is in my lounge which I why I'm trying to reduce the noise as much as possible. My constant meddling is starting to get on my wife's nerves.

Many Thanks. :):rolleye1:

US and European pumps are different but I have not had this complaint in the US or seen this myself. I might suggest running the pumps alone in a bucket after giving them a thorough inspection for any debris or damaged parts. This will give the pumps a chance to wear in. Usually pumps are noisier for a week or so and then settle in.

I've spent a good few hours messing around with this today and it looks lt's the impellor on the Nano Cleaner that's making the rattling noise. I've switched it with the one from the skimmer and SO FAR the rattling noise hasn't returned to the Nano Cleaner.

I'm currently running the Cleaner impellor (in the skimmer's pump) in a bucket of water behind me and it's making a right racket! Sometimes powering it off and on stops the rattling for a while but not for long.

I would contact Tunze UK or Tunze Germany and they will send you the part, you need part 0800.042. I would suspect the impeller is loose on the shaft and rattling as a result.
