ok, id like to have a tank in my bedroom but id also like to be able to sleep

im thinking a 20high with a sump and the return is low flow,

im going to start with a fowlr and when i have the money, buy some corals

how loud are the css skimmers?(illl probablygeta css65)

could i put the air intake(that whistles) in another room to make it quieter?

does anyone have some more ideas to make the tank quieter overall?

any specific diys that could make it quieer?

thanks

Durso standpipe

Velocity external pump (probably a T2)

Dynamat on inside of stand

Use a film can as a muffler for air intake (fill it with cotton)

Quite a few other things that im sure others will mention

thank you for the thoughts

im goin with a overflow that is drilled through theback ofthe tank so no standpipe, will that make any more noise?

how much is that pump and how many gallons?

im thinking about an ehiem1250

i figure a low flow return would uase a quieter pump than a normal/high flow one

I have 100g in my bedroom. It's not completely quiet because of the noise of skimmer's air intake. However, it's not very bad that i can't sleep at night. You will get used to the noise eventually and can get a good sleep as if the tank was never there

I made my stand pipes vent tube longer.. I ran it out of the top and down into my cabinet.. dont hear a thing anymore from it, so long as the door is closed.

i have a 30 gallon reef on my nightstand like 2 inches from my bed. And the best noise reduction i found is to sleep with ear plugs.

well there is alot of ways to do it, most of the noise will be from the air intake, but the can and cotton will fix that and the water movment, but a good duriso (sp) and a trial and error pumming can fix that. I had a 75g 2 feet from my bed and never bothered me, the only sound you cant get rid of is the hum of the pumps

is there any specific tubing that is quieter than another,

is pvc louder than a flexible type tubing?

well anyway to minize falling water and air trying to excape, that is where the sound comes from, but I have never heard the difference from any type of tubing over another
