So how "quite" should the Vortec be? I sit about 3 feet away from the end of my tank. I moved the Vortec to the opposite end of the 5 foot long tank and can still plainly hear it even in the slowest cycle of the reefcrest mode. By comparison I have a Korillia 4 at the near end of the tank and I can't hear it at all. Kind of disapointed that a 40 dollar pump is quiter than what I thought was going to be a top of the line product.

Hello Grim,

If i'm not mistaken, weren't you a customer of ours when the pump was first launched? If so, is your pump the same volume as before or louder? Can you contribute the noise to the wet side or dry side? With an external motor you will always have noise, a VorTech isn't comparable to a Korallia or any other powerhead in that regard. However, there could be more noise if something is wrong.

I got the pump about a year ago. Had a stalling issue and swapped out the base of the wetframe to cure that but it has always been noisy. Used it about 4 months and pulled it because of noise. In December I decided to give it another try but discovered the wetside magnet had blisters on it. I sent you guys pictures and was requested to send the wetside in for you guys to look at. I assumed the blisters were the reason for the noise. UNFORTUNATLY the package was lost in shipping so I had to buy a new wetside. It's just as loud as before so I gotta assume its the dry side causing the noise. It doesn't sound like something rubbing or hitting, just a noisy rotating assembly. I'm just trying to find out how much noise it should be expected to make.

OK, this noise thing is making me nuts. My tank is in the living room which is 14 feet wide. The hall leading to the living room is rigth about the same. Standing at the end of the hallway with the tank on the far wall of the living room I have to be 25 feet away from the pump at least. Even at lower speeds the wurring sound of the pump can be heard. Is that about the level of noise others are having?
