Noisy Aquaclear 110 Fix

I have the 110 filter that's works great. I have a harmonic vibration on the impeller shaft however. The unit is about 5 mos old. There is no apparent wear on the shaft or impeller magnet. I read that some have used Vasoline or silicone to quiet them down. Won't these leach into the water?
Upon looking at the impeller plastic split shaft and the green blade, there seems to be quite a bit of slop. Has anyone tried to put a couple drops of cyano glue to secure the blade to the plastic split shaft to prevent this wobble? I think this wobble is where the noise might be coming from.

Do use the plastic top at all? Over the years I've had 2 or 3 of these filters that were kind of noisy, but once I removed the top the vibration went away. It's definitely worth a shot.

If that doesn't work just replace the impeller assembly. Rather cheap part comparatively to try and just super glue it.

I'm not talking about the plastic top on the filter.
I'm referring to the impeller assembly. It has the magnetic base and the green fin assembly that fits on the magnetic base.

I would just replace the assembly, I could be wrong here but it's still a spinning shaft and adding super glue may make it unbalanced and possibly cause it to be louder or put undesired wear in the hole it sits. This is only my speculation though.

I understand that, but if you have no idea where the noise is coming from and you are using the plastic top you might want to remove it and see what happens. These filters are pretty solid IME and they last for years on end with very little maintenance or upkeep. Maybe you did get a bad apple, but I would definitely explore other options first before you do anything drastic or shell out the money for another one. GL.

The plastic impeller wobble as you call it is created on purpose by the manufacture and allows for the shaft to turn either way when electricity is supplied.
Like stated above, better just to renew the impeller, it's the only thing that wears out...

Don't glue it. First, make sure the filter is 100% level from front to back, and side to side. If it's level, and still making noise- email their customer service. They will send you a new impeller for free.

I tried the glue and it helped some but the vibration is still there.
I have another impeller on order and also sent an email to the company.
The unit is level all around. Will see what happens with the new one
and what the company has to say. They definitely need to do some
engineering on this part.
This filter has been running about 4 mos and I really like the results.

I have two aqua clear 110, formerly known as 500, 20 years, each got a new impeller after each 5 years, quiet as a mouse, best filter I ever owned....

I received the new impeller and shaft. This shaft has an area where it has been machined down in the middle. Haven't installed it yet but will see if this is some new engineering that has been incorporated. Will let you know.
