On the super reef octopus 1000 int, the pipe that the water exits is above water. But this thing is driving me crazy. I've been told that the pipe cannot be under water, but is there anyway of quieting the noise????
Hey guys, I have the same reef octopus skimmer. I'm at work at the moment so i can't check this myself but, does anyone know what the insidae and outside diameter is of the gate valve on these things? I was thinking of trying this mod and thought I could stop at te hardware store on the way home.
It is metric. That is why you have to use the 1 1/2" rubber coupler.
Oh gotcha! Thank you!
I found something they sell at Coral Vue. I'll post up pics tonight, hopefully!:twitch:
You don't need metric fittings if you got someone with a small lathe nearby. Get the closest PVC you can which is just a little larger, skim off the outer edge of one end of the coupling piece and use standard PVC for the rest.
You could probably do that with just a drill press and some creative thinking and a file too... Its not that critical after all.
Now if I can just get the pump to make less noise.

Thank you for the pictures!!! I completed this mod after I had the parts in 5 minutes. I used a combination of the 2 types shown in the previous pics. Used the rubber coupler and a tee. For me, based on the sump water level, the bottem of the tee is just below the water line. DEAD silent!!! Awesome easy mod!!!
