Non-Aquarium "Neptune Apex-like" controller

I didn't know where else to ask this question. Does anyone know of a programmable control center like the Neptune Apex that can control outlets and other functions with logic that is not made specifically for the aquarium?

What are you trying to do? No reason why an Apex couldnt be used else ware. I have a friend using one on a reptile system.

Agree... if we knew what you were looking to use one for, we could narrow down the ideas better. Do you need temperature control? Time control? What type of inputs would you need?

Thanks! The Arduino and Raspberry pi are exactly what I was thinking of. I just had a little inspiration for tinkering from the idea of the neptune, though I had no clue where to begin looking since my expertise is not in the electronic department.

If you plan to turn on/off switches, look for Belkin Wemo.

It's simple, straight forward and you can setup rules and make IFTT integration. I have several at home running for about 2 years and so far, it's stable and working great.

I actually have my lights and power heads on Wemo, so I can ask Alexa (Amazon Echo) to turn on / off "Tank Light" or "Power Head 1" for example.

I'd say that's absolutely not comparable with neptune's apex, but for basic stuff it's doable, with minimum tech knowledge.

A PLC suited for chemical process control should be able to do everything and have the input modules for pH, redox and salinity you might want.
A LabView system would probably be the most suited in capabilities and ruggedness, though extremely pricy as well.
