Just thought I would share this photo, I thought it came out pretty good. I've been playing around with my new D80 to get the hang of it. There is alot to learn.

Looks great, although a tad bit soft. Practice makes perfect.

great bird. I recently got a new d40. what lens are you using? I am tryingto practice my skills as well and as you say lots to learn.

this photo was taken with a Sigma 170-500mm. It is not a VR lens due to the huge cost dif. I like the lens but you need alot of light or a very slow shutter speed. I also have the Nikkor 18-135 but I needed to get much closer for birds and sports.

For birds and anything at a distance Image Stabilization is a plus, unless a tripod is being used. A fast focusing lens is important 2.8 being best for low light but as you probably know the dollar factor always has something to do with it.Since birds are not always in ideal light conditions. My opinion is save the money to buy good glass makes all the difference.Nikon has great glass, if I had a Nikon camera I definitely would have Nikon glass.
