noob overflow question

OK I am slowly building toward a sump setup gathering gear and a plan of attack. I will need a siphoning overflow box to get the water out and I have a really noob question here. Please forgive me, I am more of an artist type than a hydrologist! :D

I understand the waterflow completely but in the event of a power failure, I realize the tank will drain until it dips below the intake of the overflow box. I will have, most likely, the kind with a u tube that goes over the top of the two boxes. I assume that my siphon will eventually break as the main tank will no longer feed it...

So what happens when the power comes back on? Is there a device that keeps that siphon from breaking? Does the siphon even break at all? Maybe just sit there full?

With a properly designed U-tube it won't lose its siphon with the power goes out/main pump turned off.

I have a LifeReef overflow box on my 75 (( the only overflow box that I would recommend )), have been using it for 7+ years, and it has never lost its siphon.

The water should equalize in the two boxes, retaining the siphon...

+1 to what hop said ..Some HOB's come with an aqualifter to make sure it doesnt loose siphon but Ive had the u tube style for almost a year and never had an issue
