noob

any light is fine for fish.
its up to you if you want to save some money now by buying a cheap lighting system, but later on you'll spend the extra money for a good lighting system.

Have you already bought your live rock? Some pieces of live rock can come with suprises and it would be a pity to have something die. But usually LFS keep these pieces to themselves to sell later on

I would say get the good lighting now, or even a used setup may be suffice until you are ready to take the plunge into coral. Once you want to go coral it would suck if you had to wait until you got the lighting you needed. If you had the sufficient light now, then all you need to do is set it up for reef. Hope this helps.

For a FOWLR, it doesn't matter. Just whatever color scheme you prefer.

I used a low profile dual T5 strip light on one of my old FOWLR setups. It was less than $50 and worked fine.

That being said. When I moved to a reef (3 years later... my current build) I spent around 10 times that for proper lighting :eek2:

I know when I first set-up my tank I was going thru alot of money fast!!! So I just bought a cheap light first and when I wanted to go to coral I had most of my bills paid off from the set-up then I went and got back into debt when I bought my light.
