Since an 8-day snowy blackout last November---got my reef through it alive, but lost a mass of inverts and a few fish---my nitrates have been a pita: 100 plus on the tests, despite water changes, vinegar dosing, and several brands of nitrate reduction. Ceramic block. I've spent a bundle trying to solve this. Still no joy.
The last month, I've been dosing NoPox instead of the vinegar. The nitrate is now below 20. Well below 20. Much more and I'm going to have to convert to the low-level nitrate test.
As a note, this leans heavily on the skimmer. My skimmer is a pretty modest job as skimmers go, and it was pulling thick black soup. Now it's calmed down a bit.
Nice when a product works.
