Normal for new fish to arrive sick??????

Is it normal/common for fish to arrive at the LFS or in-home from online supplier sick???? I've bought fish from my LFS 3 times and each time they looked ok in the store but when I got them home and floated the bag under my lights I would notice either mouth sores, white spots or both! 3 purchases led to 3 deaths, unfortunately. So I decided I would just order fish online, maybe liveaquaria.com since they have a 14 day guarantee. Then I read an article on QT and it showed pictures of newly shipped fish that looked horrible! My LFS has a lot of sick looking fish, whitespots mostly, and I don't know if I'm just being paranoid or if I should just expect ill fish no matter where they are purchased from???
My tank has been without fish and coral for too long, Please Help.:sad2:

i have come to that realization myself. a guy o here who takes care of a 41,000 gallon tank, said to treat everyfish as if it were sick in a QT for 40 days regardless of any signs or not. Also know that if your display tank is infected with ich and like since fish in there had it. you must completely empy your tank of any and all fish for 40 days. the ich cant survive without a host, and will all die in that time frame. i know its a pain, but apparently its necessary evil. good luck

Thanks juniormc, unfortunately due to the last few deaths I haven't had any fish or coral in my tank for several months now, wanted to make sure I do everything as right as possible, so it's good to hear that since it's been fish-free for over 40 days that the diseases should be gone and I can add QT fish. Thanks!

Anyone else have anything to add?
