Looking great! Well thought out and is going to be AWESOME! I am guessing you got the dive gear for aquascaping and placing corals.

By the way, I still have some of the corals I got from your old 600G tank. I'll have to get some frags over to you when it is complete if you would like some of them back.
 
I have been gone from the site for too long it seems! Welcome back David! I was just in fargo this past weekend, wish I would have known this build was going on before that, I would have had to come get the tour!!

Since we live in the frozen tundra we have been mostly working on the design of the addition. The concept has changed a bit due to city covenants and some did to ascetics. The tank will still be 15 x 6 x 6. What has changed is that we are going to incorporate a pond and waterfall. The pond will be around 3' deep and hold around 2000 gallons. This will allow for a different kind of view on the fish, corals, clams, etc. The waterfall will give the pond some unique water movement as well give the viewer a unique experience.

We are planning to dig right away in the spring when the ground allows for it.

Good to hear things are moving in the right direction, but it sounds like the city is slowing down your progress a little. Excited to see this beauty come to life!
 
Now with the tundra thawing out, how are things progressing? I hope you get lots of pictures. I really enjoy your vision.
 
I'm Back!

I'm Back!

It only took 5 years (almost to the day), but I'm back in saltwater!!!

My wonderful wifey encouraged me to get back in the hobby and my good friend Brady got me rolling!! We have the 40 breeder setup and has been cycling since the 13th of February.

We have a 265 gallon sitting in the garage waiting for the stand to be completed. The timetable is around 2 months to to get that one online. We are still completing the equipment list for the 265. We will be doing our own custom 125g sump.

If all goes well with the 265 (kinda our trial run) we will break ground on a 3-5000 reef in summer of 2017...

But for the next 18 months we are going to focus on the setup and health of the 265g.

The stand is completed and set in place. Will have to remove the carpet and add a 3" drip tray under the sump. Once the sump is finished we will add a 2" slab of granite on top of the stand for the tank to sit on. Custom cabinet work will finish the outside of the stand as well as above the tank for the light hood. Looking at first part of April to move the tank onto the stand and start fitting everything in place.
 
I love what Amy Jo did with the place!! Will have to let you know next time I am in town visiting my brother...would love to see the set up
 
So I do have a couple questions for the reef community;

1 - I'm not dead set on skimmer or life support filters. Any suggestions?

2 - I'm really wrestling with lighting. I love the shimmer of halides. I love the look of LED. I like to color combinations of T5. I was thinking LED/T5 combo with 8-36" T5 bulbs combined with LED or Halides. What is the best combo? I have plenty of room for whatever.

3 - I am leaning towards a Panta Rhei Hyrowizard Ecm 63. Has anyone used these personally? They look awesome and can really move the water (over 14k gph!!!). So I guess I'm looking for advice one way or another. Or if there is maybe a better option?
