Northcoast members annual frag swap

Guys and Gals,

Lets have a big Northcoast reefers frag swap in June

how about we brain storm on this idea so we can have it planned ahead of time and opcourse the local vendors are invited to attend or donnation to the raffle would be welcome too.

1, how many frags does each members need to bring to qualify for the swap (since our club is small, maybe each person bring atleast 4 frags ?)

2, How does a member qualify for the swap ?

3, Are we going to use some of our funds to buy some cool stuff and frag'em up and add to the swap (like the montis that Northbay is bringing in)or James at Ceasar can order a box of stuff for us

4, create a list of corals that we think are cool and then try to have those at the swap?

5, should be play a texas holdem elimination tournament ahead of time to determine picking orders ? :lol:

I think this should be alot of fun, so lets plan it out. Please let me know what you all think so if their is alot if interest on this then we can set one up.

I like the Hold'em idea, but would kinda suck if you didn't know how to play and that determined your picking order. Do you guys play?

On a similar topic, MARS is having a swap on March 1st, and all clubs are welcome, provided you drive to Sac.

Just a FYI, BAR is also looing into possiably doing a summer regional swap. IIRC they are discussing this at the BOD meeting tomorrow June was one of the months I heard being kicked around.

Mike sure, I'll take the lead on this and we can talk about it more between us to come up with different ideas.

Gres, I guess then whom ever comes up with the date first will win that date right ??? if you guys can give me your potential date then we can try to avoid it, but it will be voted by our members as far as our date is concerned.

I actually don't have anything to do with BAR other then being a sponsor It was just mentioned to me the other week they're considerring another. I'll be at the BOD meeting though and will report back here if they do get a date The last few have had over 200 people in attendance, one reaching over 300

Gres, I have been to one of those and was very impressed so I am looking forward to attend the one in June. Yeah please let me know of the date because I am sure that we will have more members representing Northcoast this time around.

BAR regional swap will be in August

We'll be keeping to Feb/Aug when we have 2 swaps/year.

The idea being that it gives people 6 months between swaps for growing stuff back out.

I thought you guys did the poker thing already. I might still do it in SF, along with another tour and such. I still need to see Tom's tank one of these days.

FYI - August Swap will most likely be on the 2nd Sat of that month. We always meet the 2nd Sat. of the month.

Norman, August sounds great, but I can picture over a 100 people packed into that room, heating it up and kill all the corals so my question is does that room have AC ?

Arnold, sure I'll be there. We are having a tank tour in March I think so if you can make it up here, my tank will be in the tour and you are welcome to join us.

No heat (was cold saturday) but does have a GREAT AC unit. The one summer event I remember there with a load of people did push the AC to the limits, but the coral never sufferred.

Update:

The North coast 1st annual frag swap is still ON in June, we will be contacting different vendors to buy some nice aqua cultured pieces to frag up for the event. If you have a wish list, please list it here and we will see what we can do.

The list of active qualified members will be listed here so if you want in, their is still time to start showing up to meetings and participate in the raffles (since some of that money will be used to buy corals for the swap)

As far as location, I am thinking Strykers Sonoma Winery ?? Since am a club member there, I can have them set up a table for us. Also Chris has connection for Pasalaqua maybe we can use the nice deck that they have?? ... Chris please chime in Opcourse we'll buy the wine while we are there

otherwise we can always held it at someone's house or Round table. Or better yet have a nice BBQ ... if you have any other ideas please let us know. Also June is pretty HOT so am thinking maybe Bob will do it pool side

Tom, let me know if you have any questions on how we have done swaps in the past , BAR has dome like 3 -4 different formats. Maybe you can learn from our mistakes...... : )Otherwise it sounds like a fun time.
