not a good sign

I was cleaning the tank, and noticed some salt creep around the bottom frame. I started to wipe it off, and noticed some water on the stand. Upon closer inspection, the entire bottom frame has a thin layer of water all the way around it. I have nowhere to store my corals, fish, etc while I get the money for another tank. The tank is a 135G, and if anyone has ANY ideas, please let me know. I'm so bummed out right now! :worried: :sad1: :sad2:  :eek2: :worried2:

Are you sure it isn't water that has collected there that was spilled during a water change or something? I have suspected tanks of leaking before and that's all it was.
Chris

no water change has been performed at the tank. all changes are done from the sump, which is in another room. I can see puddles behind the tank, and the salt creep is all around the bottom, and still wet. :(

Can you get one of those big stock tanks? Maybe if things turn sour you can put your stuff in there and keep it in that for a while. I mean the glass walls aren't really necessary as it's for our viewing pleasure, ya know? Then you could save up some money for a bit. It wouldn't be pretty but it would work.

Of course I don't know how much those cost, but you could probably put things in something a bit smaller for a bit too.

ok, wiped off the salt creep, and dried up what I could. When I touch the bottom frame, water comes out of it. How long or how short of a time could it hold? I can't do anything until tomorrow at elast, as everything is closed. That's an idea Mel, and I know that Under The Sea had some that they might not be using right now.

Well that really sucks...no chance it's water seeping out the silicone joint around the top under the black plastic rim?

Edit: guess not since the bottom is moving...good luck.

Here's a question to think about though...if there is salt creep it's probably been happening for a good while, right? So while *I* would not even be able to sleep and might be inclined to put my favorite stuff in a bucket, I wouldn't think it would bust overnight. I mean once these things start to go, they really GO, don't they? 135g of water pushing on a tank bottom (plus rocks and canopy) seems like if there were actually a crack/leak that it would really let loose right away.

I could be totally dead wrong and maybe it's a timebomb waiting to happen, but it's something to think about, ya know? Maybe it will calm your nerves til tomorrow when you can actually do something about it.

I bought a 100g rubbermaid tub from Tractor Supply. I have not used it yet. You are welcome to borrow it.

ok i guess i need to offer my help i just bought mels old tank and it is still in the back of my truck if you need to use it let me know 694-6343 let me know what you decide

Depending on how many corals you have you could put them only in a smaller 40 gallonish rubbermaid with PH, heater and a light rigged up and the Liver rock in a seperate tub since it doesn't "need" light. I have held my stuff this way more than once and came out fine. Good luck. Every time the floor pops or any weird sound comes from the living room I run make sure it wasn't the tank. I had a 50 gallon spring a leak on brand new carpet once. No fun shop vacing and drying 30 or so gallons up but at least it was fresh water.

I'm going to all of the LFS today and see what they have. If I can't come up with anything, or find a stock tank, then I may have to take you up on that Hawkeye. I appreciate the help and support. Hopefully, I can come up with something today.

I got home today and did a complete inspection of the tank. I noticed two VERY small salt trails down the back. As suggested by a friend, I turned off the overflow for the night, and dried up all of the water that I could. Now the tank is running solo, and no water is going in or coming out. If the tank is indeed leaking at the bottom or at the top (as the case may be), I will know by tomorrow evening. On a side note, Under The Sea came through for me, and has a 135G that I can get at a REALLY good deal if mine is indeed leaking. I will post a followup tomorrow.

Ok, tank is indeed leaking, and to top it off....I lost 3 fish today....both of my baby regal tangs, and my male clownfish. On a better note, I got the tank from Under The Sea and will be setting it up tomorrow. It is a gently used 135G REEF READY tank, and I got it for a VERY nice $100.00. It's great to have an LFS like that in our area, and I look forward to their OFFICIAL opening in around 3 weeks!!! Thanks for the help and concern guys and gals.

Glad to hear it... I may have to head over there to Under the Sea and check it out once it does open... Sorry to hear about your losses though... I just lost my male ocellaris... :( First fish in 3 months to go though... Good luck with setting up again...
