Not a typical doctor's waiting room... 450 gallon reef

Get a chiller for your own sanity, trust me on this one. Tank temps are too fickle to control without one and I imagine this tank will get a chiller at some point (provided we have the electrical that is supposed to be in place).

Not much new to report other than I've started the tank on 100 gallon water changes every 4 weeks with either TM Pro or Red Sea Pro Salt (don't really have a preference between the two). Algae issue is much less and I'm thinking of starting the tank on the weekly dosing of System Reefresh.

Melev will be coming to Austin this next weekend on a tank tour so hopefully we'll get some good pictures out of his visit to show ya'll the tanks progress.

The coolest growth I've seen... well that would be from the true Tyree Watermelon Chalice that has in the last 4 weeks sprouted a dozen new mouths :smokin:

IME with helfrich, and most firefish, is they dont like alot of flow. If they travel into the water column to grab food they can get swept away very easily. Might have to much pressure for them to and they became weakened and died? But losing 5 in one day is extremely concerning...

sounds like you have a predator of some sort?

sounds like you have a predator of some sort?

my firefish plays in front of my vortech at 3000gph... they dont mind the flow

Thanks Bax, I'm thrilled with the tank's progress thus far. The Kingfish dudes are doing an excellent job caring for and stocking the tank. I'll need to plead with Marc and see if he could post those pix in this thread so they're easier for people to view. Let's see, I could beg but knowing Melev, I'd probably do better by offering him beer.

YOU DA MAN MIKE!! Your tank freaking rocks. I can't get over the growth on all the corals. The watermelon chalice and the Paletta blue especially. I'm starting to get the itch again after looking at all your pretty corals!

GSMguy - The kids truly do like the tank, and so do the parents. It's nice that they have something constructive to do while they wait (hopefully not too long). We're now working on getting together some educational materials about the tank's inhabitants to enhance their experience.

fishypets - Glad you like! It seems as though you're gonna have to change your signature line soon!

The cabinets are only accessible with a magnet to release the latches. Very neat feature for a public area.

In the fishroom, two water storage containers hold RO/DI and saltwater. This larger one hold 100g of saltwater.
