not feeding as usual

i have a carribean octo that i have had for a while now. maybe a year but not counting! he has always accepted frozen shrimp and would take 2 if i gave them, but recently he hasnt eaten anything and (mostly) will only come out at night. i have come to the conclusin that he is at the end of his life and only comes out at night to find a mate. i have had a few other octo's and it seems to me to be a male. by the behavior and by the fact that he has stopped eating and hasnt laid any eggs. my question is do you think him refusing to eat is due to the ending of his life. or might it most likely be other factors. and if it is due to the end, is it to late to find him a mate? i wanted to try and breed him because he has been a very healthy and happy octi!

well, if you have had it about a year or so there is a good chance it will be senesence, an unfortunate part of ceph keeping!

Any photos of your little buddy?

Im in the process now of getting an octo from Puerto Rico.

Thanks

All you can do now is to just hope it is a female and that it has previously mated. Raising the babies can be quite a challenge if the octo is a small egg species.
