Not happy with new custom tank

Unacceptable.
IMO - Demand a full refund and find a different manufacturer.
Up to you to release the name or not. It would save a lot of reefers from the struggles you had to experience with them.

No just plastic trim. What concerns the most are the gas bubbles. I am concerned that they are potential leak areas.

Normally they use plastic trim to provide support for the glass to keep deflection down so the seams don't get too stressed. In this case the trim looks to be individual pieces mitered at the corners. This doesn't provide any additional reinforcing if it's not a monolithic piece. This trim isn't really doing much. I wonder if the tank builder used it to cover the edge of the glass panel so they wouldn't have to finish the edges.

Sounds like what was supposed to be a enjoyable experience is becoming a bit of a disappointment. I hope in the end you get the tank you really wanted. Stand your ground and don't accept inferior workmanship.

For sure Unacceptable, send it back and get your money, there are to many good tank builders out there for you to be wasting time on this company.

I feel for you. If you're like me you get all excited with the new purchase and then, boom, stuff like this happens and takes the fun out of it. This kind of stuff bugs me even when the manufacturer stands by their warranty--I've got enough going on and I don't need another chore to do.

It's a pain, but the sooner I jump on things like this the better my chances of getting satisfactory results.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear the second tank has issues! How frustrating! Voids in the silicone sound concerning, especially if the trim isn't structural as mentioned above.

They don't even bother to send it out clean? I mean, BEYOND all the other unacceptable stuff, they can't even take enough pride in their work to clean the tank up before sending it out? Come on

Agree with everyone else, after the second time around and still having problems I would see if you can send it back and just get your money back. Try contacting sc aquariums, I believe they can build custom tanks. I ordered a PNP 45g and couldn't be happier. I haven't been able to leak test it yet but the seals are all very nice and well done. They holes for the bulk heads done have any chipping or scalloping. Overall a very nice tank and great craftsmanship.

Wow, this is terrible. When I buy new, I expect clean work. I would return and do your best to NOT take no for an answer.

Who is the maker? Lots of help on your thread, it would be nice to receive the help in return by knowing who the maker.

I, too, am curious who this builder is because I am currently shopping quotes from Miracles, Coast to Coast, and Reef Savvy, and am looking for more options. My head is spinning so much that I might just buy a plain old standard 180g from somewhere and be done with it. Which brought me to this thread, searching for reviews on fishtanksdirect.com.

I hate that you've had such crappy luck. I agree that if you custom order a tank, it shouldn't look LESSER than the aqueon at Petco. :/

For all those saying "send it back"...how's he supposed to do that without a promise of refund or something from the builder?

I feel so sorry for you man! I cannot believe you had to go through this not once but twice! I would contact the seller and ask politely if you can have a refund due to the quality of work. Tell them that you hoped the second tank would have been up to your standards as you voiced your complaints on the first.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say the buyer is too picky

You said you had problems with 4 marine land tanks. Now problems with this builder.

In my opinion if you want the absolute perfect tank then you should be talking to miracles, age, or reef savvy. And if you can't afford that then you need to take your medicine snd be happy with marineland or what you got now. That's just how life is

I'm not saying for the money you spent you shouldn't get a good tank. But at certain price points you just can't ask for perfection. And that's with anything.. cars, houses, you name it

Hmmm...
How happy would you be with a new tank with a giant scratch through the front glass and chipped holes that may cause leaking in the future?

- I agree that you get what you pay for but the tank that the OP recieved was completely unacceptable. I would at least expect clean cuts and no major scratches.
