Everywhere I read says I need 6-8 watts per gallon on the tank. Internal water volumn is about 400 gallons which would be 2400-3200 watts of light. I currently have 4x400 and 4x96 which equals about 2000 watts (okay 1984)

Should I add more?

I have read many times not to go on a WPG, that was a old theory. a MH's should cover a 2' square. I don't remember the length and width of the tank, I though it was 4'x4'. If that is the case 4 MH should work great.

The tank is 4' x 6' but is eurobraced, so the opening is like 3' x 4.5' I have the 4 mh in luminarc III minis with the 96w super acentics running two down the middle of the tank side by side and one on each end of the tank

Each metal halide covers 2x2ft...that is 16sq/ft of lighting for just the metal halides. The effective area you need to light is only 3ft X 4ft if you leave room for sand around the coral/rock structure....so you are more than covered.
