well guys....i successfully drilled a tank this weekend...just a 5 gallon that i wanted to incorporate into my 20 nano......everything went welll with the drilling, but when i got to installing the pipes to the bulkhead.....**crack**....grrr....thought maybe i put too much pressure will twisting the bulkhead....so i went i bought a new 5 gallon.....drilling went perfect again.......installed the bulkhead...check for leaks....perfect!!!!!....

wrong!!!....i managed to crack the tank while installing a pipe from the bulkhead!!!!!....maybe i shouldnt have used those pool-type hoses that are hard to connect

so note to self.....do not use pressure!!!! :mad2:

What did you use to drill the tank ?

I need to drill a new panel on th 15g tall i have as i did something simular.

I found where to buy the glass and my wife can cut it but I just need to drill it.

I ordered some glass cutting hole saws from ebay. Cheap, but they do the trick. I think they come out of Hong Kong or somewhere around that area.

avalanche, i just used a dremel and some diamond bits that i purchased at workshop tools in oprymills.....you can pretty much use any diamond bit you want....but like gflat said, a ton of people use the the diamod coated hole saws

everything went well for me though, i believe my problem was using the "pool" pipe....i probably just need to use some screw-on connectors or something

I did the same thing with a 10G for my sump and just replaced the broken Panel (side panel) with some plexeglass, and re-drilled, so far it has not leaked, and that has been over 5 months now.

what part of the 5 gal. cracked? I might could use one if youre just gonna trash them? The tarantula is gonna need a glass cage so I can put a under tank heater on the side of glass for this winter.

WHOA ! I thought you couldnt use acrillic with glass as it will not seal right ?

Acrillic would solve BOTH of my problems getting this tank back up.

Steve, I have a 10 gallon with a small side crack I just filled with trash from the garage clean up today you are welcome to. I was gonna toss it but can just hang onto it if you want it. Its in the side panel.

Well I did that before everyone told me I could not:D ...
Anyway, I chipped out all the glass back to the "PLASTIC" rim around the tank and cut it to fit snug, then silicone alot, and that was several months ago, and working fine, but it is only a 10G sump, so it is only 3/4 full of water, very little water pressure. So far, so good.

that's cool, appreciate the offer. I need a 5 1/2 gal. tank. I think a standard 10 might be too big. I read where people say the rose hair shouldnt be kept in too large of a tank.

Thanks,
Steve

I have done this as well. The glass on a 5g and a 10g is so thin that even the slightest pressure will crack it.
