KING LEAR
Geo will do a how to put together a reactor meeting for us C-Sea'ers in November. We need to decide a few things real qquick in like the next few days as to what reactor we want to do and getting the prep work done on them for George.
Please check which reactor you'd like to build.
There not the ones geo sells they'll will be the DIY type like the kalkenstein he did for cora or the calcium reactor like we built 4-5 years ago.
Thanks for your input on this DIY meeting.

Also were guessing the money to do this will be in the 60 dollar range. That number will be hammered out this week.
You don't have to buy a reactor to come watch and help put them together. Great meeting to learn from one of the top equipment makers in the hobby

New great idea to think about, makeing a Phosoban reactor or Fuildized reacotr for carbon instead of kal/calcium reactor. Something to look into this week also.
Thanks Bond007 for the idea

Erik

we need to do all the prep work before the meeting, Drilling the holes and taping so I'm guessing it will be one out of the three we do. Would be nice but just not enough time to do a multiple diy workshop.
Erik

If it is at all possible I would like to buy the parts to do both or all 3 so I could assemble them at home. I would guess that a calcium reactor would be something that most of the new people don't have yet and might not even know the benefits of running one at this point. I would absolutely love to get a calcium reactor for roughly $60 and feel that after building one of them the other items would be a breeze. What about doing a workshop every other month for a while so everyon can get what they need over time. If we did it that way I would buy the calcium reactor first then the kalk, then 2 more fluidized reactors to complete the system. If would be awesome to get all the parts from the same place and have matching components for my system.

I know I may be dreaming about getting all of them but I thought I would mention it.

Thanks for working on this Erik! I have been a member for over a year and have heard about DIY projects but never seen them through the club yet. I think it is a lot of fun to get your hands dirty making something for yourself.

You have my vote :)

I voted for kalk reactor, problem with calcium reactor is additional cost of co2, regulator, etc....I bet if you asked who made calcium reactor (at past meeting)and actually use it, #'s would be low.
just my .02

Just one per I think, no extra headaches needed :) in such a small amount of time. Each unit will get holes drilled in different locations so there not universal for one another too

If any one of those people would like to let me have their old used DIY calcium reactor for $60 please let me know so I can feel better about not being in the club when they were made before.

I am trying to look at it in a practical sense. You can drip kalk from almost any container, you can run carbon in a multitude of ways but you can only run a calcium reactor if you have a reactor. I understand that there are lots of people who already have reactors and just want a kalk unit. I thought most people who wanted a kalk unit would've gotten one last time when CORA did theirs and opened it up to non-members.

I will be happy doing anything and thankful to Erik and GEO for doing it for the club.

Just want to keep it simple. If your looking to buy a old unit kevin, could you start a thread for that so this doesn't go the wrong direction like so many threads do. Thanks. This is a poll for what the "CLUB" wants to do. Its actualy easier prep work to do the Calcium reactor thats why I voted for that. I'd rather have a nice large phosoban reactor though.

Barr is good stuff, this is along the lines of diy stuff. Just a good hands on meeting no frills to the units but they'll work fine.

My vote would be for a phosban reactor. I drip Kalkwasser through an IV from a large container and add "purple up" and Kent part 1 and 2 for buffer. It seems my calcium is always 450ish. I alternate one gallon of kalkwasser or a cap of purple-up every other day. Chaeto seems to take care of nitrates. Phosphates are my problem. I still have red slime algae in a few spots and green hair that feeds on the phosphate. A Phosban reactor seems simple to build and doesn't involve co2 bottles and extra associated expenses.. Just my 2 cents.

The PhosBan Reactor maximizes chemical filtration utilizing the up-flow principle to gently fluidize the chemical filter media. Even distribution of water through the reactor increases surface area contact, achieving the most efficient use of PhosBan or other chemical filter media.

Chemical media are most effective when paired with proper husbandry. Use them as an effective prevention, rather than a remedy. Once algae is to reach nuisance proportions, it becomes much more difficult to control. A bit of prevention goes a long way.
