I've been reading the threads and doing a little research on Mantis Shrimp. I am now to the point of wanting one. I have heard they need to be kept in an acrylic tank. Is this true? I have a couple glass tanks around here, 29 and a 10 and don't really want to have to tell the wife I'm buying yet another tank. LOL

not entirely true. It depeds on what kind of matis you want to get. Large Peacocks and G. chiragra are pretty much the only ones you need to worry about in a glass tank. If you're paranoid you could go with thick glass for any other species.

I suggest getting an N. wennerae from tampabaysaltwater. They are pretty consistent with shipping that species unlike most places and N. wennerae arre a great hardy and interactive mantis beginner species.

N.wennera would be happy in a glass 10. Being from Tampa you should be able to pick one up for like $10 from Tampabaysaltwater.com since you wouldn't need to ship it.
