Now looking for a good external pump for a return

After doing some homework, I now need a reliable, QUIET external pump for a return. I need for my 180 reef, so I'm thinking something rated for about 3000 gph. I'm not the richest reefer, so quality for value is the route I'd like to take. Any suggestions?

I have both the Iwaki japanese motor edition and the Sequence Dart. My dart runs a lot quiter.

Dolphin motors are great, although anything at 3000gph is not necessarily going to be silent, but I typically find these guys to be on the quieter side - compared to something like a GenX.

For that much flow the popular choice is the Dart.

As a sidenote: does anybody know the real difference between the Iwaki Japanese and American motors? I think I asked before but can't remember if there was a concensus of why.

Some say the JP motors are a little quieter and last a little longer. I'm not sure there is any true difference, but I imagine there must be. But the JP motors don't come with a cord IIRC.

Personally, I like the Pan Worlds better than both. There is a test here on RC that compares the JP motor to the PW for sound. The PW was quieter.

The iwaks are great too though.
