Now what? I'm stumped?!?

This morning I feed my RBTA, BTA, and Rock Flower Nem (9am). Cut up 3 pieces of silversides, about 3/8" x 1/2" (I alternate feedings between raw shrimp and silver sides). They all ate it and they were in full bloom. 3 hours later I get back from the LFS and added 4 green chromis, 1 gamma basset, and 1 scooter blenny. 1 hour later I dosed the tank with element essentials (kentmarines), 2 1/2 tsp for 125gallons, first dose ever to the tank. Which the RBTA and BTA were fine.

When I went to feed the fish around 5pm.. the RBTA and BTA were shrivled up, mouths 1/2 hanging out and still attached to their respective rocks. I just did all the level checks, SG 1.024, 0 nitrates/nitrates, .25 phosphates, water temp 78.

any ideas? bad food for the nems, rock flower is fine???

Whats your ammo? that is alot to add at one time. Also, silversides are known to take out nems. How old it the tank?

The tank is 6 months running (RBTA been in tank 2 months, BTA about 3 weeks). I have read a few FAQ on BTA were people are feeding them nothing but silversides (aka karensanemones). Ammo? I have to test tomorrow ran out of chemical to test for it.

Well... just went into my basement to check nems... the RBTA and BTA are both inflated back 1/2 way to being normal. Photo-period? or they puke out the silversides?

Running 500watt MH (9a-5p), actinics run 7a-9p. I just changed the MH to 10a-4p??

weird....

Silversides are like like top choice to feed BTAs. Did you get any of the water the fish came in mixed into your tank? Another thing what color is the footing of the BTAs? I'm sure they are just expelling waist and will pop back up.

No water from the LFS made it into the tank. The foots were the dark reddish color. The are 60% enflated now..

My BTA shrivels up and looks sick.. only when it's taking a crap. Otherwise, it inflates like normal. I think as long as it has it's foot planted, there wouldn't be too much to worry about, since it isn't trying to find a "better" spot for itself.

Suggestion from an old fart. Don't target feed your BTAs, they catch enough fish food to keep them happy and don't add "nutritive" supplements to your tank. IME, anemones are very sensitive to those types of additives and they do more harm than good.

I target feed them once a week (well the clarkii's take them food..lol). Anyways i know it is 50/50 opinion, from what I "read" don they need a iodine 'supplement'?

I am pretty sure that out of the many people on this forum that have kept individual anemones for 10+ years, none of them use an iodine supplement.

Heck, I had an S. haddoni for 12+ years, and never dosed iodine, just did regular water changes.

I, personally, would skip using silversides, years ago I lost an otherwise healthy H. malu after feeding it one.

I have heard of nems not taking kindly to overfeeding sometimes. Perhaps what you're feeding is a bit too much for it to handle? In terms of iodine... Its really unnecessary unless you have TONS of softies in your tank and do not do regular water changes. I used to dose iodine for a bit in my tank, and I must say, shrooms, polyps, and my tyree toadstool ate that up like it was candy. Other corals were suffering a bit though (aka star polyps, sps, certain lps). Perhaps it had to do with a new dosing regimen? Not sure seeing as though I used a half dose whenever I used it. Now I use iodine as a dip and not an additive.

What else besides raw shrimp to feed them? or any raw squid? octo?

I use frozen (( thawed )) krill, have been using that for the last 5+ years. Along with any food meant for the fish that they catch.
