Im trying to plan out my sump to get a start on building it and I figure I wont need a fuge if Im going to be using the NP biopellets. So my thinking was have a section for a skimmer, frag tank, then return. I have a 55 gallon so plenty of room any idea on how to set something like this up? also what are your thoughts on how effective it will be just brainstorming.

Your sump considerations really have no effect on running Pellets, As they are used in a reactor, Unless you want to sit the reactor in your sump?
On a side note your Choice of pellets being NP is IMO not the best choice as they are having many Issues with that particular pellet. Unlike the Eco-Bak from Warner Marine which I can say from experiance work well. JMHO

the type of pellet you suggested will be fine was just using those as a idea reason I dont want to add a fuge is I've been dosing vodka on my smaller tank and its been working good but the chaeto isnt looking that great so figured why not but that space to better use as a frag tank :)

I would tink that the vodka or pellet would take the place of the Chaeto in the nitrate removal. If the nitrates are removed thru the carbon dosing, then there is nothing to feed the chaeto.

Thanks I had forgot about that website! what size glass would work for the baffles 1/2 inch or 1inch thick

OH man.. you could use 3/8 I would guess. But, If i were to build one, now I would cut up acrylic to make the baffles. just silicone them in as if it were glass. Much easier to cut, and work just as well. if im not mistaken, that 55 is 3/8".

But heck, if you feel like cutting some 1/2" glass for a baffle, I have a 24x30 sheet you can have! it weighs about 30lbs!

lol I was just wondering I have a local glass place in town that I could prolly get to cut some but not sure of a place local to get acrylic tho maybe some plexiglass?

Gotcha... they may have it too. all depends on the cost of the two. I am DIY person, so the acrylic is my speed, but glass can easily be cut as well.

Dont see why not. it may have a bit more flex if im correct, but in a 12" wide piece, I dont think it would be noticiable.

i have glass sheets at 1/25 that would work fine in that space,i also have sheets of lexon which is like acrylic but a bit stronger and i think its a bit bigger then 1/25,i'd have to check it again but as i've learned the thickness doesnt matter too much in a sump as long as the water pressure is evened out through out the sump
