I need to get some NSW real soon . Does anyone know what the water conditions are , in the Gulf right now ? Ted

Ted,

Not sure if the conditions down here are similiar or not, but even with all the wind we have been having, the water was fairly clean out about 10 miles yesterday. Water tested within normal NSW ranges. Did about a 25 gallon water change today and everything looks happy/healthy. Hopefully when you go out the seas will be a little calmer than what I wrestled with yesterday.

Jim , Thanks for the report . adnup , and I may go out Tuesday . They say a front is expected Tuesday , but we'll hope for the best . I really need to do a water change . I don't have much in the tank yet , but I still want to do a WC . I will do about 60 gal . any way . Ted

Ted,

Was thinking about Wednesday to come up your way - maybe help with the water change if you need it. Let me know if Wednesday works for you - was thinking coming up in the morning?

Jim

Jim , I'm sorry , but Wednesday is not a good day . I have two medical appointments that day . one in the AM , and one in the afternoon . Tuesday afternoon is good , Thursday afternoon is good , Friday morning is good ,all day Saturday , or Sunday . Next week from Wednesday on is good . LMK Ted

Ted,

I might just wait until the weekend anyway. Stupid ankle is giving me fits today. Can you PM me your address and phone number and I will give you a call on Friday. Probably will target Saturday morning.

Jim

Yes Jim , We went out yesterday , and it was ugly . Paul , is a very good friend , and has offered to go with me anytime he is off work to get water . Paul was off , and the tide was right , so we went out , but I am not going to subject him to that kind of mistreatment again .
We were in the only boat out there . Ted

Our quest for NSW is further support to the "addicted to this hobby" statement. Sorry it was so ugly - guess it comes with the time of year. Looking forward to the summer days when it is calm enough 10 miles offshore to waterski.

I've been married for 20 years. I think I can handle that kind of "mistreatment" - lol :D

Any time Ted...

Jim , I hear you , but with summer comes a bigger chance of RED TIDE . This may cause you to have to travel more to get good water . Knowing all this I still like NSW . Ted

Ted,

What was interesting/strange was the real bad red tide we had in 2004 (or was it 2005?) extended over 20 miles offshore here. But it never came into the bay just west of our house. So that summer I resorted to using bay water and luckily never had any problems. The ledges and reefs offshore are really just now recovering from the 100% kill from that red tide outbreak. It was sad diving the summer before last and not seeing/hearing any of the normal life that we have offshore.

Ted,

Be sure to batten down the hatches. Been blowing like stink all week here; not sure when it is supposed to let up. I too need to make a run, as well as go check the traps. Hopefully the winds will subside a bit by the weekend.

Have fun and be safe.

Jim

Ted,

Thanks for asking. Everything is pretty much the same, which is a good thing. Stable water conditions, good coral growth and no issues in the main tank.

The small tank seems fine also, other than the die off of the big forest of caulerpa I had in there. Only thing I can figure is removing all those shrimp/urchins had a drastic impact on the nasties in the water, plus I have done several recent big (like 75%) water changes. Will have to see what happens as I replenish the population of critters.
