Nudibranch Teaser

I was able to make it out to a low tide a week ago and came across some cool critters! I brought my 2 gallon "studio" to photograph some of the little guys out there. Some naturalists were scouring the rocks looking for nudibranchs to show off to visitors. They temporarily kept them in my 2 gallon that I brought with me and I snapped some shots. The tank is covered with black acrylic on three sides and remains open top and clear glass on the front. I used one strobe flash from overhead to light up the box.

This is a teaser for now!

nice job, great images on all merits. Would be total off the charts with increased DOF. What aperature? Have you ever tried stacking? Not sure how much these guys were movign around but it might be cool to try.

Thanks! i was shooting these at F11 or so. I was shooting with my 35mm macro but I still wasnt getting the DOF I would have liked. Unfortunately these slugs are a lot faster than they seem! I've been meaning to try stacking but it probably wont work with these guys. I guess this is why people get extension tubes? haha

Very nice shots and I'd love to see a quick shot of the portable "studio" all set up. Sounds like a really neat idea especially if you're in an area like yours where you can access this wildlife, get a nice shot or two, and return them to their natural home.

those are spectacular!

I would love to make that first shot my background if its alright with you, is there any way you could email me a higher res version?

photos of tank soon! i promise. it's nothing special.
