Nudi's

Any tips on getting rid of them. I investigated my frags last night and found one, was shocked by how easy they were to spot. Found about 10 egg sacks and maybe 15 nudi's. Picked them off and rinse with freshwater. I have always done dips and such so I was shocked by not alarmed. I knew what they were and what to do just looking for any tips and success stories.

How long should I expect this to go on?

Mine were bright green. And they appeared to be eating the mat and not the polyps. This was the surprise to me, I always assumed they would eat the polyps.

If I was you and you have lots of zoas you want to save, QT right away. Dip with Lugols, freshwater sometimes isn't enough. Leave them submerged for a bit then shake them under the water. I would do this every other day for a couple weeks.

AS in QT tank. I unfortunately do not have the space for this currently. I am going to go forward with lugal dips every other day for a few weeks. Checking for eggs and such. Any info that anyone knows of in terms of life cycle for these things.

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions.

I would get the zoas out of the system and try and quarantine somehow so the nudi starve to death. The ones you don't see. Thats the only way you are going to get rid of them for sure.

A quarantine tank you would be able to change the water 100% more often. A cheap 2.5 gallon tank at Petsmart is like $8 and you could buy a cheap whisper filter for the side. Put them near a window for sunlight, and Walmart sells a cheap submersible heater that keeps the temp around 82. $20 you could have a cheap QT system you wouldn't feel guilty about throwing away. Nice zoa colony goes for $40-$60.

I had some of these lil flourescent green sun of a guns. Never realized they were the reason I couldn't keep zoos. Do yours move like an inch worm?

I ripped them out before I watched them move much, but yes that is their mode of transportation

How long should I let the QT tank cycle with that whisper in it?

I wouldn't worry to much about cycling the tank they are just zoas. How big of a tank do you need?

We got lucky a few weeks ago Rich had found one in his tank.

We had just added sand from my tank to his when I moved my tank from the 90 to the 180. At that point I was not sure which tank they have came from, but he did have a patch of zoos the had turned up missing prior to adding the sand. We have both checked our tanks over and over and have not seen another one since, it's now been 3 weeks since he found that 1.

How long does it take the eggs to hatch?

Is there anything that eats the nudi's?

I really need to start doing the Dip myself. I have way to many different colors to have them start disappearing.

I have a tank that I think will work, I will put some eggcrate racks in it tonight to give it some varying depths for light needs. I really just need a heater. and the whisper filter/

This is my battle plan and has worked for me the one time I had a large out break. Wonรƒยขรขโ€šยฌรขโ€žยขt tell you where I got them from but a stupid mistake of just throwing them in after a quick dip. I ran out of time that day. I gathered up all the colonies I wanted to save and I threw out the ones that were not important to me. I had just enough to fill a 20 long. Bought a whisper hang on the back for circulation and a heater. Setup the tank in a window that gets morning sun light. No substrate. This is so I can take a turkey baster to find and easily pull out any dead ones or detrius. I did 100% water changes every week and a half three times and dipped every other day for the first week and a half. I moved them to my frag tank and then back to the main tank after a couple months. I assumed what was left in the main had died of starvation. The QT tank had algae blooms from the nice sun light but it wasnรƒยขรขโ€šยฌรขโ€žยขt a display tank so I really didnรƒยขรขโ€šยฌรขโ€žยขt care. Every time I did a water change I threw my colonies in the brute can I make the water in. That way when I drained the tank I could clean it out. Zoas are very hardy as long there is nothing eating them. :D

Try Walmart or Petsmart for nothing fancy or I usually go thru Premium for stuff I need the next day.

I think I will do the same with a small tank i have sitting around and a spare set of crappy t-5's since I dont have a window for them. Is the whisper just for circulation, so should I throw out the filter it comes with ?

Dipping with lugals suggested?

for water changes did you use fresh mixed saltwater?

Dipping with lugals suggested? Yes Kent Lugols

for water changes did you use fresh mixed saltwater? Yes at 1.024 SG

How many colonies are we talking about. I had several medium to large rocks that they were on that probably was creating some bacterial filtration and introducing bacteria into the system each time I did a water change.

Dennis How long do you leave them in QT prior to putting them in your main tank?

couple months

I really wouldn't bother doing a FW dip every other day, it will really stress them out plus you will kill them the first time if you do it long enough. I would do a heavy iodine SW dip the other days and blast them with a small powerhead or a turkey baster to remove any babies or survivors. This is much less stress on the polyps than a fw dip. I also make sure all of the polyps are closed before the FW dip, also less stress
I do a 40drop of luglos or tincture per 1 gal of SW for my iodine dip. JMHO and good luck!

thanks for all of the input guys. This is my first major disaster since I started Salt. We will see how it goes.
