NY people nyaquariumservice a good LFS

your not talking about "Ney York Aquaria" in mamaroneck are you. been there got a 12" tall gorganian for $40. must have been mismarked. when I was there, there wasn't much of a selection. stock was low

no this place is in manhattan. Its on 33rd. Its on the third floor so they dont have ANY pr. Selling marine fish is not a profitable businuess w/o the servicing but its still a store with good reef stuff. Better than New World and thats the only other option for us NYCers.

not sure if its worth a look if your from somewhere else. But NYC people literally have no other option than New World Aquarium, which it certainly beats for reef.

ever feal like taking a ride to stamford ct. check out "reef and fin". about 1 hour from my house but its worth the trip. infact thats where myself and 4 other reefers go. road trip

there are lots of great saltwater stores opening upstate . capital district of NY has some very knowledgable stores/ staff. its a booming time up here as everyone is seeing the hobby more and more and getting interested. the city has lots of stores some badly managed and others a true great secret. most of the time you have to know where to look or youll never find them. you can find some real deals when your willing to walk alot and spend time on subway shopping around.

Well how far are we talking?

Hey Lekic & all...

I used to go to Columbia U and also lived out in Queens for a while. While there I wasn't into reef tanks yet, but I was thinking, why not join one of your local reefing clubs in that area and check out their forums, they could probably suggest good stores to go to!

Here's a manhattan reef club:

And here's LIRA's website for the long islander's:

I hear good things about them. I used to go to a great saltwater store up by bayside, but I know even that can be a hike for Manhattanites that take the subway, plus I can't remember the name.

i have taken the subway twice a day everday for the last 9 years and have explored every area of manhattan and most of brooklyn and queens. There are really two main lfs in the city, fishtown usa and new world aquarium. Now there are other stores such as around mott street in china town that are hit and miss, and if you dont quarintine then dont bother. There are two other petco type stores on on 14th and another uptown that also sell saltwater but i dont think anyone on reefcentral would shop there. The place i mentioned in the threads title usually just sells fish to the tanks they service, but have a very impressive selection (NYC standards, probably nothing compared to house of fins).

ReefD, can you tell me some of the spots you are talking about. Then maybe i could stop searchings. Also, I go to school in Saratoga Springs, 40 miles away from albany. Can you suggest some stores that i could get to without a car, basically a cab ride from a train ride.

Hey Lekic, do you have a car? There is a store just over the GW bridge that I've heard is converting from a wholesale warehouse to retail, and my friend said it looked great so far. It's called Aquarium Warehouse in Fort Lee.

IMO, FishtownUSA at time has the best price on the fishes, corals(even SPS) and clams. You would need to visit them weekly to catch their specials.
