A great idea and way to pick up so new frags.....and local!
All welcome to the NY Reef Clubs' TrueSwap 2012, this year the NY Reef Club opens its doors to the reefing community in addition to its members.
The True Swap 2012 will be held on March 11, 2012 at the PLAY-NY Lounge located on 77-17 Queens Boulevard, Queens New York 11373.
In the spirit of captive propagation and survivability of the worlds' coral reefs, we have developed the true swap. This year, similar to last year, all frags will be placed in specimen containers with green covers. These specimen containers will be the official frag containers in the NY Reef Club True Swap.
*Note*
Each frag that is brought to the frag approval table must be clearly labeled on the bottom side of the specimen container.
The frag label should include
· Frag name such as "œORA Ice Fire".
· If the corals' common hobby name is not known, you may simply use the colors the coral presents and coral type (i.e. red/green/pink zoas).
· Classification "“ LPS, SPS or Softy
· Your name
· All frags must be cut and healed to pass the frag approval, to ensure survivability.
· Kenya Tree, Toadstool, Pulsing Xenia, Clove Polyps and Button Polyps are not permitted in the swap due to the sheer abundance and vast availability of the aforementioned corals.
*Specimen containers will be available at the next February meeting at Richie's. As well as Dr. Harry's and Jarrett's offices the coming weeks before the swap.
*To participate in the True Swap 2012, you must have an active membership. You may visit NYReefClub.com to either acquire or renew your club membership
· Members; Free admission, must bring minimum of 3 frags.
· Non members; $20 fee with a minimum 2 approved frags, $30 with 1 approved frag
*Please note that the last day to become a club member before the swap is February 29, 2012. Membership applications will only be accepted with payment of True Swap fee from March 1, 2012 till March 11 2012.
Non-participating guests: Are also welcomed (no entry fee) to come and enjoy the festivities. PLAY-NY Lounge has ping pong and billiards tables, bowling alleys, and many more fun games to enjoy. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase from PLAY-NY. So bring your wife, sister, brother, cousin, uncle, aunt and friends to have fun!
True Swap 2012 Procedures
·The frags will be placed in the same specimen containers.
· All the containers will placed on a table surrounded by heat pads and monitored for its temperature and be available for viewing by the participants.
· The swap will be conducted in rounds, with the order determined from names drawn randomly.
· In the first round each participant will have 30 seconds to select one frag.
· The second round will be 20 seconds, the 3rd 15 seconds with two participants and so on.
· All the containers will be mixed around randomly like dominos after each selection.
*After each round is complete, we encourage members to trade with each other. Besides satisfaction it is also well known that not everyone will have a suitable tank/equipment for the type of coral they choose (i.e. SPS frags).
