O/T Any plumbers in the group?

I have a leak around the base of the toilet. Did a new wax seal, did a tank/bowl new seal. It may have existed before the new tiling but I had a thin plywood down that was a quick way to put some tile down when I did this in 98. When I pulled it it was gross from absorbing stuff including concrete sweat which I had anticipated as actually needing done sooner. But anyway it still gets a gross water near the toilet. I'm wondering if I have a hairline crack somewhere and I just don't see it or maybe the junction between the concrete and the sewer pipe may be allowing water up between it and I need to seal that off. I would say groundwater coming up but it does it when it's not raining too.

Does your toilet rock side to side ?

Is the iron collar broke that has the bolts to lock down the base of the toilet ?

It should have two metal tabs or a full ring around it, if those are broke or cracked it can wick water sometimes, even if your wax seal is good.

Doesn't rock around. It's PVC pipe there. I think it was doing it before and just more now that it's cooler. If I seal it up at the pipe/concrete I'll inspect around it real well but its always been a very solid mounting as far as shifting etc.

Lots of toilets sweat in winter.

You could always try an oversize wax ring but I'm wondering if it's not just sweating.

The toilet itself doesn't seem to have any condensation and I can't "see" any dripping or water runs but this is too much. I'll pull it and look below. When I changed the wax ring before I just automatically thought that it was to blame and really didn't inspect in there so I'll change it one more time, check the bottom of the toilet and all over real well and maybe I'll see something.

You know when I first installed the toilet I had one of those plastic inserts and when I retiled the floor, the wax ring I bought didn't have one. I'll def. look for one when I change it, AGAIN. I almost want to find a cracked pipe or hairline in the toilet. It would cost money to replace but I'd at least feel like I def. found a problem.

I think you'll find that most of the oversize rings will come with the plastic piece.

I don't know what the likelihood of finding a cracked pipe will be as even if there was one the water would be dripping into your basement and not wicking up into your bathroom. The botton of your toilet has an area that sits in the pipe to help prevent that and the wax ring should eliminate that possibility. Then again .... stranger things have happened!

This IS the basement bathroom.
