O/T Networking?

I`m no computer wiz, so I`m confused with this network business. I installed a wireless card in my old computer and hooked up the wireless router and that all seems to be working. Both computers are online. Yea for me!!!

Is it possible for my new computer to "see" all the files on my old computer? Is there a way to just look at a file( music, photos, etc.) and pull it onto the new one through the network? I assume there would be, I just can`t figure it out.

Please be gentle, like I said, I`m no computer wiz.

If you are using Windows Xp pro and maybe even home edition you can put both computers on the same workgroup. Once the computers are on the same workgroup you can share the folder with the music and photos. If you want help I can connect to your computers from my house as long as there online and set the work group up for you. Let me know! Or i can stop by Tomorrow im in a poker tourney that starts at 3 so let me know!! Maybe I can pick up those zoas!!

You can do it with wireless. You just have to go into window "my network places" and there is a section to the left called network tasks. Windows XP will walk you through it.

Hey Tony,

Yea, it is XP pro. I`d definatley need some help, but since I don`t have to work tomorrow, a friend and I are planning on making a Salty run tomorrow. I probably won`t be around until after the tourney starts. You can pickup the zoa`s if you want. We`ll have to set something up.

Ok, let me know if I have this right.

I think I got it. I can see both computers shared folders from the other one. You can`t really see the whole computer from the other, just the files that are inside the shared folders? If that`s correct, then I think I got it.

Yea that should be correct. Let me know if you need any further assistance, I went to college for networking.

that is correct you will only be able to see the files stored in my network places on both computers The wireless part makes no difference whatsoever.

If you are like me, I shut all my machines down when not using. So note that the other computer you want to access shared folders on will need to be turned on. Just thought I would mention that. Seems pretty obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people forget that....then wonder we they can't get to the other computers files.
