Oceanic 250 on wave timer?

I just got a Oceanic 250 powerhead to supplement the flow in my 12ncdx. Now its a little stiff. The powerstrip running the thing is one of those with the 3 outlets that alternate on off for use as a wave timer

Can I put the powerhead on the on/off outlet?

I'm pretty sure when these type of pumps came out everyone said "no, too much stress from the stop-go" but id thought id check if anything, product or opinion-wise had changed...
