Those who said you should not mix salts, or change salts. Please look at this http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1556491 .

This thread shows the great debacle Dr Ron started....lost of folks lost corals after his great study.

RHF knows his stuff, and I would not argue with him on chemistry.

Having said that, I wont be changing or mixing salt mixes any time soon. Not trying to be a naysayer Mike. I honestly hope you're right on this. This is one of those areas where I'd love to be wrong.

Not a problem Nick. Theres nothing wrong with good healthy debate. I just could not find any reason mixing salts would be bad considering the make up of all of them is very similiar. So I had to go to RHF and get is opinion. Thanks for participating in the thread!

Glad you feel that way...all too often people on either side of the "debate" get personal when their argument goes south. I learn more from debate and discussion than I do from following a thread of constant and consistant agreement.

I totally agree. I can see there being issues if your current salt is consistanly low in alkalinity, and the new salt measures high, or any other parameter for that matter.

So I mixed a 200 gallon bucket of Oceanic with 150 gallons of Reef Crystal salt. I made thirty gallons of water two days ago. Here are the readings from Elos test kits and a Hana colorimeter.

Alk 10 dkh
Mg 1250
Ca 440
Phosphate .03

FWIW I was a victim of the Crystal Sea salt quite a few years back. IMO it didn't have as much to do with mixing salts as Cystal Sea having something it shouldn't have.(I have no idea what)It's the only time in 18 years I've had a bad experience with a salt being used in the same tank with another salt. Actually it's the only time I've heard of salts not working together. That stuff was weird.
