Oceanic warranty and painted back

Does anybody know if painted back glass violates the Oceanics lifetime warranty conditions?
I have a small crack under the silicone seal, and consider replacing the tank under warranty. So I wonder should I scrape the paint off or not before I turn the tank in.

My did not have it painted. It is 175G bowfront with two overflows so I guess it makes it reef ready

Here is warranty card. There is a sentence it there about "altering in any way"

I dont see why it would. Their Reef Ready tanks have a painted background already.

Well, mine is void...twice! :lmao:

I didn't buy the Oceanic stand, it's on a custom.

I moved it with two inches of sand and water in the bottom. :fun5:

I think you're ship shape to paint the back though! It makes sense, the warranty is just on craftsmanship and paint wouldn't cause seams to split or glass to crack.

I had a Perfecto that had the center brace warped by the metal halides. They replaced the tank for free, even after I told them I painted the back. So, at least for Perfecto, I know for a fact that a painted back does not void the warranty.

Call them and see. No one here is going to be able to give you a better answer than the people at Oceanic.

Well just hope that oceanic is around long enough for you to get your new tank. It looks like coralife bought them out. Unless theyre up dating their products all I can find that is made by oceanic any more is their salt.

I hope there is some law that somehow mandates companies to honor lifetime warranties. I think if they are bought out then new owner is still responsible.

I havent had a retail shop for 10 years- so my dealings with them are in the past. That being said I never had any of the big three tank manufactures void any warranty claim- where the only desire was tank replacement. I was asked by AGA a couple times if it was on their stand- which I said I sold them one with it- and it was taken at face value. Your best bet is to go to a dealer and discuss it with them (although calling oceanic anon will give you a chance to prepare if need to scrape it). The dealer should have a direct in with a wholesaler if not oceanic themselves-and a lot of times the wholesaler takes over the claim anyway.

I am dealing with Oceanic now. I did not mentioned to them about the back wall yet. They are still trying to figure out what is it that I have, crack or chip. Like it make any difference

A chip you more likely could have done yourself as opposed to a crack- they are feeling out whether it is a manufacturs defect or a accident.
