Oceanpure salt information

I went ahead and ordered some of this salt from marine depot to try out.

I did a search on reef central but didn't really find much worthwhile info at all.

Does anyone have any information regarding when this salt was first produced, what reasons led to it, whether it had anything to do with all the doc ron/salt brand testing/heavy metals discussions a while back, or what may be different in the production of this salt etc..

thanks for any help with my reading/research.

Oceanpure is imported by TAAM\Via Aqua from China. Like all other products they import and label, the price is hard to beat. I first learned about the salt about three years ago while going thru their warehouse looking for goods I can use in my tank, they were in plain white bags then (I ended up taking some pumps, heaters, T5 lighting and some nice Ricordia home  ).

There are a lot of people using this salt in the west coast for the last 18 months or so and so far I only have heard positive reviews.

I made 35 gallons of water with the two bags I got from JBNY this past weekend, the Alk and Ca were pretty neutral but I am surprised to see No3 at 10. I will mix some more this weekend to confirm the No3 and Po4.

I'd like to see any updated info on this as I'm trying to put together a Group Buy for DFWMAS.

Thanks,
Chris

well theres not much info although it's arriving today.. i can post pictures though i dont know what good that would do for you.. i ordered from marinedepot

Have you tried contacting TAMM about it? Maybe try posting in the So Cal forum as a lot of people in this area use it. I don't use it as I use NSW but a lot of people around here do and seem to like it.

Heh, I doubt the company that produces their salt would give me an unbiased opinion of their salt. I believe it's mass produced in china and exported.

It just came in the mail and I mixed up 5 gallons from RO/DI. It mixes and dissolves pretty fast compared to other stuff I've been using but nothing to rave about. Doesn't seem to have much chemmy salt smell to it either but my nose is unreliable.

Guess we'll see how it does in the long run.. all I know is I really needed to do a water change today :)

that was the only good thread on the stuff.. ill reread it again.

Actually fishtown now got some Oceanic buckets for like 45 bucks which aint too bad for their overpriced arses. so should be a good read.

Let me know what you find out. I did not find any NO3 when I tested, but my test kit could be old.

My No3 levels are at 0 after a few ocean pure changes. This stuff mixed up pretty fast and clean.. I like it.

Joe any comments as to this compared to the oceanic you were using for months?

Taam is very hard to deal with only one person speaks english, they have constant backorders.

The deal is this, they have several retail stores in CA what they have left over they offer to distributors.
So you will not see much around the east coast for the time being.

So if they (taam) runs out and likely will plan on changing salt.

They only have two retail stores, which are run by his son's. I've never had a problem dealing with either son and the both speak perfect english. ;)

They do distribute to some of the other local So Cal stores, that why I asked if he tried contacting them about possibily shipping some out. I've also talked to another person who runs the warehouse, no problems talking with him either. ;)

Tat, the owner may be a bit slow on his english, I do not know as I have not talked to him directly but he has posted on our club website, no problem understanding what he is trying to say though.
