OceanPure vs. Oceanic

Yes Taam is the one who makes the Salt... However It seems that they are putting out some good things... The salt for one I havent had an Issue with it... I Always mix it to 35ppt 24hrs prior then test... no issues... I am currently using thier 20k Helios bulbs and Those are just plain slick... I am very happy with the bulbs... The old rio powerheads I delt with were a PITA but I have played with the Seios lately and those seem to be pretty reliable... There is another new Salt that I was going to mix up and Test as well and Its made By Pacific Coast Imports... My lfs gave me a bag to pull some testing on it... Had to do an Emergency waterchange (Ca Reactor Malfunction :( ) so that Test got put on hold..

Funny I saw this thread the same day my LFS asked me if I wanted to try Oceanpure salt. I said "no" and bought my bag of IO as usual.
Next time I go in there, I'll pick up a bag and try it out.
Thanks James and everyone else for this well informed thread.

I noticed in your price breakdown that the Coralife salt is the cheapest, why don't you use that?? Coralife is what I use right now (Yes I wanted the shirt!) and I was wondering if it had some problem I have not noticed yet.

Thanks,
Whiskey

OK...here they are, I used RO/DI water and Salifert test kits. I am pretty happy with the numbers. I would like the Mag. to be a little higher but overall, I'm happy. I will post the results of the second batch.

Temp: 78.2 F
Salinity: 1.025

Alk: 10.2 dkh
Cal: 500
Mag: 1275
pH: 8.2
Phos: 0

Man, why was it so off when I tested it? I know the kits are right, because I when I bought the kits a few months ago I tested a batch of kent, and that same batch of kent tests exactly the same now.

Was this a bucket or a bag you tested?

my batch#s are SF4-13Y It seems to be the same on all the buckets that I have purchased... Got more again coming shortly.. But so far Everything has been great.. Consistent levels and everything...

OK...here are the result of the second batch. This time I made 15 gallons. I like the numbers:D

Temp: 78.2 F
Salinity: 1.025

Alk: 10.2 dkh
Cal: 450
Mag: 1290
pH: 8.2
Phos: 0

I'm curious to see the results of different batch numbers. I didn't look at the batch number of the stuff I had.

Just a bump as Someone was asking locally about this salt again... Anyone Else using it and finding the same results... Many of us up here in Oregon are Using it and finding it to be a very decent salt... So far i have gone thru many more buckets and still to this day the numbers dont vary (any major amount) and things are looking good... The algae issues were not due to anything really in the tank but were linked to some bad bulbs... Since replacing the bulbs with some good ones that has gone away as well... I have probably gone thru about 10 buckets of the salt and everything is so far so good... I am in the process of a major overhaul on the tank (new liferock, sand ect) and sold everything except fish... So far I am addicted to this salt as It has been awesome So far in every way..

James

Started using it myself.

I can believe how fast it dissolves compared to IO.

Numbers are as previously stated. by James and Tigerczr...Darn near perfect!!!!

I've asked about this salt on the BAR club forum and there is this guy that insists that Ocean Pure is crap lobster salt, and that a Via Aqua rep told him he won't even use it because it clouds his tank.

Seems like everyone here is pretty happy with it, and there are starting to be a lot of successful tanks with it. I want to get some but the only place that carries it is by my work, and it's tough to carry a 150g bucket of salt with you on the train.

what about CustomAquatics? wouldnt shipping be rather Inexpensive since you are Semi local to them?

Or heck.. find a buddy that wants to try it out as well and drive over and pick up a couple..

The salt is definetly not crap lobster salt... My sps before I broke down the tank were extremely happy... And seemed to be loving every min of the salt use... My pH has been a little higer 8.0-8.3.. what more can I say.. The levels are consistent from bucket to bucket... But yeah Many many people up here in Oregon is using it now...

My rock is just about cured so I can put that in the tank and start Aquascaping... As anyone can tell from my pics In the links I have posted everything looks happy as can be..

James

Yea, I thought about them, it makes the cost about $18 more than buying it locally, but it's much easier to have it delivered than lugging that heavy container home on a busy train. Not to mention the 1/2 mile walk to the station with the bucket.

East Coast Ocean Pure

East Coast Ocean Pure

Ocean Pure was just brought to my attention today and I am having a hard time finding places on the East coast that sell it for the prices I am reading about on the West. The cheapest I found it for was $69 and then I am looking at shipping. Anyone else in my shoes?
