Oceanrunner 6500 or 3500 ?????

i was using 6500 for my 36 X 24 X 36 tank (decom) and going to reuse it for my 48 x 30 x 24 tank. Good pump.. ofcoz most important how big is your tank?

It is a 75 gallon powered by a very noisy mag-12 now.Was going to put a valve on the output to dial it down a little.what do you think.

IMO. they are junk. you'll find people on here like them but all they are in a china knock off of a ehiem. get a ehiem you wont be sorry.

First, of all, oceanrunners are made in Germany. Secondly, oceanrunners are far more efficient than eheims.

I have a oceanrunner 3500 and it works well.I had a problem with it and they replaced it with a new unit so i can say they had good customer service.Aqua medic is a german company but the pump says made in china on the box.

I think ORs are made in China and are the same pumps as OTP. As far as them being more efficient than Ehiem, I'm not so sure. Specs, and real world flow and power use are not the same thing. The OR's get complaints of startup problems and all out failures too,

An Eheim 1262 real world flow will be very close to a Mag12. Definitely more than a Mag9.

Had one I believe it was the 600gph model. Ran good for about 8 months then slowly began to weaken to the point it could not flush the bubbles out of my overflow tube and it started to fail which in turn destroyed two battery backups and powerstrips.

They are quite efficient but dont move any decent head pressure.

On another note I also have one that came on my octopus 150nw skimmer. That lasted all of 6 months and crapped out then I bought a replacement that ran for two days and the whole impeller assembly became completely lodged in the housing and fried it. Now I run a Sedra.

IMHO I would just keep the Mag or go for a red dragon if ya can.

Are Mags that noisy? I run a 9 on my tank and I dont hear it at all. Is it vibration or the impeller making the noise?

Well but i have to point out 1 very impt experience. I tried both OCR and OTP. well i guess. OCR is somehow very diff from OTP. The flow and the silence. but ofcoz maybe the the OTP i got is a problematic set.

Price diff, i guess the MOTOR is diff too.

I had an OR 3500 the pump worked really well and it was very quiet. The only thing I would say negative about the OR 3500 is that it lost alot of its kick when I ran a manifold to supply water to my reactors. I ended up getting a Reeflo Snapper and at 98watts the flow is amazing IMO and extremely quiet. IMO the best move I made as far as a pump.
