Is that a gigantea? It looks like one..If it is then that would explain why they quickly took to it. :)

X2

I was thinking gigantea too. I get the impression that for ocellaris and perculas, giganteas and magnificas are the equivalent of a Four Seasons. For maroons, that same thing plays out with BTAs (not surprising since it is maroons (and tomatoes) one and only natural host). They go to them almost immediately, even if they're tank-raised from what I've observed. Clarkii seem to like a variety of anemones

It may be, it was sold to me as a carpet anemone. Whatever it is I love it and so do my clowns. That would make sense though because my female clown is tank raised and went straight to it.

What does the underside of the oral disc look like? Can I see a picture of it? This anemone looks like a gigantea but I have to look at its foot and under its oral disc to get a positive ID.

Being a carpet it will move down off of that rock to the sand bed. Just a little for warning in case you have anything between it and the sand. Or it might be best to move it down there your self so you know it will not get anything while its on the move.

Actually, I think it will stay on the rocks, it looks more like a gigantea as opposed to a Haddoni, which would prefer the sandbed.

RyDoggsReef --- what type of flow and lighting do you have in this tank? Gigs are one of the harder anemones to keep

I have a fluval 304 on max flow and a koralia 1 banking the flow off the glass in the directiom of the carpet nem. I have Coralife 196W PC lighting with a 10k bulb and a Royal Blue actinic bulb. I have been successfully keeping a bubble tip, anthelia, duncans and hammer coral under them for a while. Keep in mind the light is directly over the anemone and it is half way up the tank

Assuming that it is a Gig ( and really need a picture of the underside, like Christina said, to be sure ) that isn't going to be enough flow nor enough lights to keep it happy long term.

If it turns out to be a Haddoni, the flow is okay ( but maybe a little low ), but the lights are really on the lower end. They can handle less light, but prefer the sandbed, so that might be an issue.

Might be a good idea upgrade to halides or a good T5 fixture.

Gigantea are pretty needy when it comes to light. I personally would never try to keep one under PCs, but maybe others with experience have a different opinion.

revenge here ry: Your gigantea will grow too big for your 40 gallon, needs more current, and needs more lighting, as others have said. it will never do well : ) hahaha
